Chicane vs. Solarstone

Here's a thread that would've been relevant 10 years ago, but I just had the urge to compare them. During the days when a lot of uplifting trance sounded the same, these two acts imo, had their own unique interpretation of what trance could sound like.

I would honestly say Chicane out of the two, but then again...they both have their own unique sounds and qualities with their musical compositions. I just personally like Chicane better than Solarstone only because his music hits me deeper :)

An example of each DJ, personally two of my favorite songs~

yeah, when it comes to trance for the summer, I cant think of anyone who did it better than chicane.
Scoops
both are def unique in their own right

As someone who lives by the beach, Chicane's music just sounds perfect weather 9am on the way to the beach...or at 3am leaving the club

this one always does the trick

I can't discount this one though

I've noticed that Chicane and Solar Stone never remixed each others tracks. Not sure if there's a reason behind that or just coincidence. :D

10 years ago, chicane. but these days, solarstone is still steadily chugging along producing some pretty good trance, imo, in a time when it seems like everything coming out is either 132-bpm trouse or 140-bpm uplifting cluster. here's a recent one of his i enjoyed:

Pretty tough call... Solar Stone's Solarcoaster and Speak in Sympathy are two of my favourite songs of that era....

But then Saltwater and Autumn Tactics.....

Impossible to say which two favorite songs form each artist I'd prefer.

His last album, what was it called. 1000 mile stare?? Biggest turd Ive ever heard.

Old Solarstone comprised of more than one producer. This new Solarstone and his "Pure Mix" sound isn't pure trance, but darker, film noir type of music, and his new EA3 sounds mediocre -- well-done in putting in the work, but mediocre sounds.

i don't put much stock in the "pure" thing. that's a marketing gimmick. but marketing gimmicks aside, the fact remains that solarstone's sound has become somewhat unique, if only for the fact that the majority of 'trance' producers are putting out trouse or uplifting these days. i enjoy his current sound, but haven't had the chance to listen to EA3 yet. hope it's not as mediocre as you say :)

Solarstone for something you can dance to, Chicane for something you can lay down / float to !
