Remember those old "You are the 999999th Visitor!" ads?

Remember when you used to visit a website and get one of those pop-up ads that said "Congratulations, you are the 999999th visitor!" What happened if you actually clicked one? What kind of companies start up around that kind of idea? And has anyone actually met someone who designed them?
These may seem odd questions, but they're very important to me when I'm high. |

I think they asked for your e-mail address or other information for "confirmation" -- and then probably started sending you spam. Much like today's bottom of the barrel ad companies do.
Here's an article about a more current type of popular Internet ad: How "one weird trick" conquered the Internet

| Hahaha... Over the years I've received DOZENS of emails with ppl saying they saw a banner on TA claiming they won a prize because they were the 1,000,000th visitor (or whatever) and asking how they could claim it |
