I believe Pioneer bought the rights from technics/Panasonic to put their name on these. This looks to be the final product. It was teased a few months ago I believe at the BPM show in Europe.

well they look nice of course. pioneer stuff usually does. even if they just slapped their name on a technics turntable and are remarketing it, at least technics is going to live on. i'm not sure how popular these are going to be though.

it looks exactly like a technics. Why buy this when you can buy a 1200.

Is this really a re-badge? Source?

meh.

Not to be negative or anything but I see a lot of posers going for this, if anything. Pioneer fanboys - they exist.

My techs are in perfect working order and I have no need for these, as do many others.

In fact the one thing that interests me about these, if anything, are the supposed shock absorption/dampening features that they added.

Oh and I think the price point is a bit too high. Maybe if Pioneer offered some kind of Technics buyback program I would consider them.

My guess is it's still niche enough that they weren't making enough of a business case to keep em going, despite the recent uptick in vinyl. Looks like they're living on here though.

I'll take my SL-1200MK2's any day of the week.

More of a novelty now. Still nothing like the feeling of spinning on tecks.

Japanese electronics companies are kinda in the ter at the moment due to competition from Korea (and other low-budget places). Could be that the slow-down of sales in other divisions meant Panasonic had to cut costs.
