every DAW has its strengths and weaknesses...just try them all out and see which one fits

I started with FL Studio, then went to Reason, Cubase and finally ended up on Live

All DAWs will essentially do the same thing. I started with FL Studio; it's very user friendly and is incredibly easy to learn. It's a pretty simple program which is why I think it's been written off by many as a "casual" producer's tool, but some real great tracks have been made with this program.
One of my favorite tracks I know of made on FL is Cosmicman - I Love You

That being said, there isn't really an overall "best" DAW, it all comes down to what you're most comfortable using. Most programs offer a free trial, so I'd recommend experimenting a bit with them. Try recreating the same song in each one you use, that'll help you figure out which is suited best for you.

How come in half that video the bassdrum feels like there's a dj style trainwreck in it?

I have no idea. It doesn't sound like that on the record...however this was the only available video of the original version on youtube, and the sound quality is quite .
Another song he made in 2004; it was quite popular with big name DJs that year.

your best bet is to do trials because everyone is different. I've been using various DAWs for a long time, I got started with Acid Pro (when it was sonic foundry, before sony). then I moved to Reason and it was a big learning curve. Then I moved to Ableton and it's by far my favorite and the learning curve wasn't too big, it's pretty intuitive. I like Logic Pro X also, it's another great DAW.

FL Studio aka Fruity Loops was one I absolutely hated. So many people say it's the easiest but I have a hard time pulling off what I want in that DAW. It's a big fat piece of garbage in my opinion. There are plenty of people using FL and pumping out amazing songs, so it's just as capable as any other DAW. But I can't stand the workflow of FL, to the point where I actually hate FL, which is a sort of ridiculous thing to say.

But that just goes to show how much opinions differ. I'd saw Ableton is the most intuitive and by far my favorite. At the end of the day, they're all capable. You just have to find the one that's the right fit for you, it's all about workflow. Do some trials and for DAWs like Logic and Cubase that don't have demos.... watch some training vids and tutorials on YouTube to give you a peak of what they're like. Demoing is your best bet though, try Ableton first ;)

Think about what plugins you want to use, VST? AU? I love Reason but it doesn't support either. Reason comes with great instruments but if your heart is set on using Sylenth or what have you, you want a DAW that supports VST. You get the picture, good luck!

Good to see you back man. I haven't seen you post for years! :)

Good advice here and I felt the same about fruity. I just could never get my head around the toy like interface or step programming withing a linear DAW. That's my problem though; it's a case of my brain being wired to not like it and that shouldn't have any bearing on others.

FL had one of the best demo songs ever made though: Blake - hanging on.

ing word

It was that demo that got me into using DAW's after 15 years of not making music.

I couldn't believe it was coming out of my computer lol.
