I recently downloaded Fl Studio, and looking for ways to get some heavy bass sounds. And I was wondering if I can get some help from you guys.
Here's a link for the type of heavy bass I am lookin for. It's on youtube.
Track: Nomad VS. Wragg & Log One - Relentless (Original Mix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIWAf0-Cswo
I just love how heavy it is in the very beginning and then how it progresses.
Anyways I have tried a couple ways of trying to get this sound by adding a bass, and adding some distortion, and with the bass instrument I increase the attack to about 65-75 percent, and then just keep the doing one note in intervals similar to the beat of this song. But it seems there is different bass notes, but I can't quite seem to figure it out.
Can anyone help me? I'd love to get heavily involved in making and listening to trance music. Thanks in advance. |

| thet bass sounds like that because of the sidechain signal....it can be done directly your bass output like your doing with a long attack but that "sucking" sound it's actually happening because of the ghost kick sidechain. its a compressor making the sucking |

Fuk that woke me up!!
I agree about the side chain (you could just write volume curves though instead) and the use of other quiet notes on the down beat but to get a sound this big and 'correct' would take a lot of fiddling and tweaking and things like the right kind of distortion / saturation and filters. It sounds pretty nasal and resonant. |

This did help out a lot and I appreciate. Now I am just curious what effects should I had to my basslines. Because, from my 10 years of guitar playing and learning music theory, I believe it's best to find a way to get the same exact sound as the song. When I was picking up guitar I wanted to learn Zakk Wydles crazy train version. Took a couple of years to get the same exact sound, but I did it. So now after all the songs I heard and try to replicate sounds I have more techniques and sounds in my arsenal. Anyways, please, if you have any ideas for rhe effects to the bass let me know thanks.
Haha I have been learning sidechaining for the 8 to 10 hours now. :) |

Fiddling with effects and wave formats? |

Here's a tune I made up using the sidechain in FL Studio demo. It's not quite the same result as the song Relentless that I posted that I wanted to learn, but it does have some similarities.
Tell me what you think.

I basically put the knobs as high as they can go. Any pointers? Cause I still would love to get the bass sound from Relentless. Thanks in advance. :) |

Oh! That song sounds very intense! I like it! Thank you for sharing that link. And that bass is very nice + "fat". Would be great to create bass so massive. :tongue2 |

Not bad at all.
This question you have about how to get that sound just cannot be answered in a sort of paint by numbers way. It's a bit like asking how Picaso got 'those paint strokes'. You will never get exactly the same strokes, but with tons of practice and experimenting you can find something you feel is good.
In terms of any specific pointers you will find that that producer uses certain distortion plug-ins (or even hardware) to get that nice warm fat and saturated bass, but I don't know how you find out which he used. Saturn is supposed to be a good plug-in on bass.
So get fiddling, try layering up different sounds, use one layer for it's attack pronounced presence - maybe even something like a snare, who knows. Try different types of filter. Maybe SEND some of the sound to a distortion channel so you can easily control the amount of distortion being heard.
Now you will often be told 'oh that's just a basic synth and can be done using any old synth' but this is often not the case. I could spend a lifetime using some of the stock Cubase synths and never get than bass sound. Some synths are just more suited to this type of sound, perhaps MASSIVE might be worth trying for example.
Remember all the early producers and engineers often just fiddled until they found something good. |

No problem. There's actually a full 70 minute mix on youtube that has the similarities.

I will have to look into trying many variations.
Any suggestions for Fl Studio 11? |

| Before I give you any further explanation, I must ask, how familiar are you with the FL native plugins? How familiar are you with Sytrus? |
