NI Battery - worth getting?
View this Thread in Original format

Hi there, is it worth getting NI Battery? What are the main pros of getting it? And any difference if I still stay with good old sample sequencing?
tehlord
Depending on what DAW you're using there's usually a comparable solution built into that.

If you're looking to add something to your drum arsenal I'd probably steer towards something like Nerve or Geist, both of which are awesome.

Battery is worth using if you got it with Komplete, which is totally worth getting.

By itself there are most likely better options out there, though it does everything I need.
Anakratis
Nope. Just use any built-in sample sequencer. If you're getting Komplete, sure. But it's not worth a standalone buy. If you're specifically looking for a library of samples, you'd be better off going for something like a Maschine Mikro.

I got reason essentials for half the price :toocool:

I like Battery by it self maybe its just me but I like the control you can give each sample opposed to some other daws out there if you dont need that much control dont get it.

This is one of my favorite things about Battery, but I do maybe wish it had more builtin FX as micromanaging output routing for external FX even in Reaper is fairly annoying.

I've been using Battery 3/4 for many years and I think it's one of the better drum instruments on the market. One of its best features is it's browser/library. If you take the time to import and tag your own third-party samples,it's very easy to find what you're looking for, audition them, etc. it also has very deep and intuitive sample editing and layering features. I use it with Sonar's step sequencer, which is a perfect complement to Battery. But, if you want a drum solution with a built-in sequencer, look at Maschine or Nerve (I also have and use both).

Some of the features in Nerve are genius. Export a sequence as audio?! GENIUS I SAYZ!

The sequencer in Geist is superb though. In fact Geist is almost Maschine without the dongle.

Geist has much better sampling features, too. I still prefer Maschine, mostly for its hands-on use (yes, I like to touch my dongle), although I am probably one of the few people who wish that they would focus more on making it the ultimate drum machine, rather than trying to twist and bend it into a DAW. It is pretty cool how seamlessly they've integrated the NI instruments into Maschine, particularly Battery 4. Still, I just can't force myself into that workflow.

Yeah I kept my Maschine for about a month. I think the boy got more out of it than I did!

I agree though. I would rather they made a simpler unit that acted just as a drum machine, or go the whole hog and turn it into a proper DAW. Saying that I still wouldn't buy either!

I do feel an MPC coming on, and not that Renaissance nonsense either.

Man I love Drum Machines, I will be getting the TR-8 and can't wait to try nerve and giest.

I'm fairly new to this. When i tried Reason's redrum (rewire with cubase) i was hooked. :toocool:
