There isn't really any successful approach to be had. Well, I guess we could just leave them to slaughter whomever they please and let anyone else who is willing try to step in and stop it if they want. That would be successful in not getting any more of our soldiers killed, anyway.

It's what needs to be done right now. It isn't a long term fix, but they need to be bloodied and quelled before they commit more harm. Then we can figure out the way to sustain peace. |

Chickenhawk (also chicken hawk and chicken-hawk) is a political term used in the United States to describe a person who strongly supports war or other military action (i.e., a war hawk), yet who actively avoided military service when of age.
The term indicates that the person in question is hypocritical for personally dodging a draft or otherwise shirking their duty to their country during a time of armed conflict while advocating that others do so. Generally, the implication is that chickenhawks lack the moral character to ask others to support, fight and perhaps die in an armed conflict. Those who avoid military service and continue to oppose armed aggression are not chickenhawks. |

Looks like we might get a new crusade out of this whole thing. Anyone remember the rules? You die over there and all your sins are forgiven, right?
On a more serious note: ISIS is pretty much the worst thing to happen to the world in years. I really, really, really don't want to get sucked back into Iraq, but this might be reason enough to do so. I'm not as unconditionally or reflexively supportive of R2P as some, but this seems to be a clear case where the world needs to step in - or at least Hellfire in. |
