I have absolutely no idea what to do when it comes to working with vocals / samples. I am trying to create something that resembles the following :

*sample is from Habersham & Numinous - Leaving Tifton (Digital Witchcraft's Miles From Melbourne Mix)

What kind of samples / FX are used to achieve this effect? Are there any tutorials on this subject in general? Can anyone recommend some sample packs / VSTs that can be used?

I think that's Just a time stretched vocal sample.

You can achieve similar results using the paulstrech plugin. thats a great little plug.

Edit:

After listening to the whole song it could be that he's using granular synthesis on the vocal

Thanks for the info! Do you know how the pitch was warped / vocal was articulated? I'd guess that they used the vocal sample and reversed it and then did the stretching etc. However, I'm wonder how it's possible to get that level precision since it seems like it would have taken literally hours if not days to get that right (not sure if that's a reasonable guess).

Also does anybody know where to get samples / VSTs that are used in productions such as stuff done by Moshic? It's pretty difficult to find good ambient / ethnic types of samples

If you use FL you can use the Fruity Granulizer. i dont know if other daw's have a similar plugin.

Here's a good video of how it's done:
