A new series from RedBull Music Academy that showcases some of the composers responsible for some of the most memorable video game melodies and their influences; as well as electronic and hiphop artists who were in turn inspired by these game composers (Flying Lotus, Kode 9, Just Blaze, all appear on here). First episode is out and features Hip Tanaka, the composer of games like Gyromite, Wrecking Crew and Balloon Fight and a personal favorite.
Here's the series trailer:

Japan has always been a hidden gem in music. Never getting much recognition by the masses across the world. Even to this day,of your from the states you never really discover awesome contemporary japaneese electronic music unless your watching anime or playing video games. Ill give 2 prime examples

The SNES soundchip was absolutely fantastic, I remember the first time I went to my friend's house and he showed me Final Fantasy 4 and just being blown away by the soundtrack - Fun fact: it was designed by Ken Kutaragi who would later go on to develop the PS1, 2 and 3. |

Video games are a huge factor in my love for electronic music. I grew up on all the Sega systems and all my friends had a SNES, which at times did make me feel like I had the wrong system.
Though inferior,I still prefer the sound chip of the Genesis, had a thick, funky sound to it. |

| Episode 2 is up! Featuring Konami and Sunsoft... Lagrange Point is an awesome and extremely obscure game, so I'm shocked this was covered. |
