64-bit DAW's and 32-bit VST's

I just built a new PC, and downloading my instance of Live 9 trough their website.
I'm downloading the 32-bit one just to be sure that it could run most of the VST-plugins.
My question is, CAN a 64-bit host run 32-bit vsts? Is there any stable tool that has a workaround that or something? I'll try it out sometime, but if anyone has a straight answer to this could help me out.
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I guess the 64-bit doesnt change that much anyways. So is it ideal to just stay with the 32 bit one, not trying to goof around just for some extra memory? |

Jbridge
unless your DAW has that functionality built in. Ableton probably has not. |

yep, ableton doesn't support 32bit vst's in a 64bit host so jbridge is the only answer. i'm in the same situation, I have windows 7 x64 but am running 32bit ableton live 9 cuz I didn't wanna mess with jbridge. i read that bitwig on the other hand, does natively allow 32bit vst's in their 64bit host. everytime I get an "out of memory" error on my 64bit 16gb computer cuz I have 32bit ableton on it, I get jealous of bitwig.
does anyone here have experience with jbridge in ableton? i've read some frustrations about it which is why I didn't bother trying it and stuck with 32bit.... what a waste of ram. |

Hello,
yes, it could be a hard choice if you are starting out.
As far as it goes, the bug bear of the whole thing is just
trying to get a computer that can take and use more RAM memory.
It may be the case now, that even new laptops and stuff come
with the 64' systems in them. (Msoft sends you both disks....32,64
when you buy the OS)....you can choose or use both.
Uh, if current new desktops at even 99 dollars (Base unit ) are coming
with 64 systems in them and about 8 gigs of RAM. THen your kind of in the clear right. 0___0
"Jbridge" is like 10 euros , you have it cleared up. You can choose.
Thx

Reaper and Bitwig studio both have no problems running 32 bit plugins in 64 bit builds.
It depends on the DAW though. |
