Attention Span

I was having this conversation with a friend the other day...he doesnt listen to trance. I offered him some tunes, which you know being around 7-9 min. long...he listens for about a min, then says sorry, i cant continue, my attention span is too short...
Then, this kid in my class tells me, elena you sit during class and just maintain your position throughout the whole hour and a half of class..Usually kids would shift, sleep, get up and stretch or just daze off...
I was thinking maybe this relatively longer att. span has to do with me taste in music...I mean you have to sit through the whole 10 min of a tune to experience the build up/breakdown etc etc...as oppposed to another type of song which usually lasts for about 3-4 min...
just a thought..

2 words.... radio edits...
i think people get bored cause of the intro beats... just fast forward to the meat of the song and i'm sure they'll love it..
don't put them trough the intro/outro beats... that's only for the djs to hear, =P |

I can't listen to a whole track either, I usually know instantly if I'm interested or not......usually I'll jump to the mid portion of the track, still not interested, then its out.........
Call me crazy, but I noticed the majority of asians aren't exactly the "figity", personality demonstrating, type.....(usually asian females) I too have noticed that quite a bit just stare, and their emotions look, almost, non existent. Same goes with asians (specifically females again) who drive. The majority of them look, almost uncomfortable, as they sit there, driving, staring completely on the road, in perfect posture, with no hint of facial expression, and two hands on the wheel...... I'm not just talking out of my ass either, I've noticed all this to be, almost factual, in my perception atleast.
odd........ |

Your friend probably isn't used to hearing 7 - 10 min long songs. Since most non-trance/ electronic music is less than 6 mins long, it is not really an 'experience' when you listen to these type of songs. |

| Yeah I think you really have to listen to the entire song to really experience it. But I don't have the attention span to do so, always just skip to the main chorus, takes to long to hear those boring parts |

I was going to reply but my attention span isn't long enough for this thread.

^^^ lol :haha:
I know what you mean, Elena. Usually when I mix some trance tunes for my mates (including Asians :p), I need to drop the intro beats or prepare an intro myself, otherwise, they won't really wait that long and they'll just stop the disc. Actually, the first thing I do when I get a new tune is to take it right to the build-ups and then, later (if I like it), I listen to the whole thing :toothless. |

well actually im asian....and i have the worst attention span. i can listen to music all day though, its not about attention when it comes to trance becuase, while people can say all they want that its repetitive, i think that trance changes so much.... the progression may be very subtle but i like subtle things so it makes such a world of difference to me.
i think this is becuase the music is so relaxing at the same time. when i mix in my dorm room... my roomate always falls asleep becuase its so relaxing.. he doesnt even listen to trance yet he enjoys it and finds it relaxing. ofcorse i could put in other songs that will wake him up but im usually chilled out.... doesnt really feel right to play something too upbeat at 3am in a very quiet single sex building : \ |
