vestax or pioneer

hey,

I'm thinking of buying a new mixer but I can't decide which one. I'm doubting between a DJM 500 or a vestax pcv 275 because of the fact that it's cheaper and it gets good ratings. Is there much difference in sound quality etc. between these 2 (appart from the effects on the djm)?

I know many people have had trouble recording with the 275 because of weird outputs or something but I don't know personally. I own a 175 and 2 channel faders have buggered and the paint off the faceplate is shedding like there's no tomorrow. I am upgrading to the DJM-600s and I suggest if you have the money you get the 500 :D

from what ive heard the 275 is pretty solid but ive personnally never used one so i cant reall comment! but if it was me id go for the pioneer, maybe even the 600 instead of the 500 if you got the money! :tongue2

Pioneer over Vestax all the way. But having just got my grubby hands on an Allen & Heath X One 62 (At last!) I would highly recommend it. Those filters are an absolute joy to use, I can't get enough of that High Pass filter, lovely. A larger EQ than most with two mid eqs will allow you to get the sound required too.

I f u like effects get the 500

I own a vestax pcv 175 and it has amazing sound quality, the x fader curve seems to be perfectly suited for trance mixing ultra smooth.

Owning the 275 I can say:
- The recording output on the mixer work perfectly.
- The 275 has a different type of finish than the 175 so the paint wont chip.
- Vestax has excellent sound quality

hey,

I'd also like to know if there are any differences between the 2 in the quality of the faders and EQ's

btw thanx for all the replies so far

well, the EQ on the vestax is very good. Some people complain that there is not enough room between the EQ knobs though. It doesn't bother me much, especially because i have the mixer at a slight angle. if you have big hands, it might bug you though.

another thing I have noticed in the difference between the actual EQ ranges is that, the bass on the vestax effects the song a lot more than on the DJMs, ie. the frequency is wider.

so, when you turn down the bass, you take a lot out of the song. likewise, when you turn up the bass it gets a lot louder.

it's not that bad, but it's noticeable.
also, it's not painted, don't worry about chipping.
and it has pans on each channel, something the DJM does not have.
plus kill switches for each EQ, on channels 1 and 3, DJM also doesn't have that.

and most importantly, note, the PCV 275 is way better than the 175, for one key reason, on the 175 you can't hear the EQ changes in the headphones.

a&h xone32 -cheaper than the djm 500 or 600, more expensive than a 275, but kicks em both to the ground :P
