is there such a thing? i have a very definite sound in my head when it comes to that.
is it simply a sub-genre, a certain time period, or the one house that doesn't need a prefix?

No prefix I think, disco can be heard a lot in the house I remember from the 90's. Haven't followed it, but I know Morning Factory and he's always looking for old disco vinyls at flea markets.
