The climate of the entertainment industry in 2014 finds dance music skyrocketing, in both the mainstream EDM market and the cutting edge underground, who's community has expanded their audience to a massive global number. It is here where talent, passion and technique, coupled with a carefully constructed brand identity, push premiere DJs and producers to the top of their game, not to mention the sales charts. Nick Curly and Anja Schneider are two such game changing artists; label bosses and sensational talents whose dedication to their work finds them constantly touring to massive crowds eager to hear them expand the limits of their art: DJing. Curly and David Oyston of air london launched Trust at the onset of 2014, presenting the world with their vision of melding top tier talent and next level A/V production with classy event design elements all in an effort to grow the fan base for the music and artists they support. Trust comes to Chicago for a truly landmark musical showcase on November 21, 2014 and will feature Nick Curly, Anja Schneider, DJ Lady D, Diz and more. Electro Static Productions, Trust and their respective teams will open ears, expand minds and create new connections in the Electro Static lab, the dance floor - where everything begins chemistry.
Nick Curly is a force to be reckoned with behind the decks. Curly's Trust parties present him an opportunity to put his skills on proper display. Nick’s production style defies genres and he boasts a massive discography, ranging from dirty hour grooves on his co-owned Amused Records imprint to the deep, sexy tracks highlighted on his Cécille label to his latest focus on a techier sounds with his newest endeavor, 8bit. He has also seen production and remix credits on numerous other labels including Defected, Cocoon, Get Physical, Mobilee, Supernature and more. Bursting upon the scene when minimal techno was at its height of global domination, his focused efforts along side the efforts of others in the area generated such a buzz around his native hometown Mannheim that the dance music press began using the phase “Mannheim sound” to describe techno’s next big shift. After having played a number of times at Cocoon Club in Frankfurt leading up to the summer of 2010, Nick was tapped by then owner Sven Väth to be a part of his annual Amnesia residency in Ibiza, a season that also saw him play a run of events at Space. Nick released his first studio album, "Between the Lines" on Cécille in 2012, followed up that same year by a smashing remix package on Defected, for whom he is a current resident for Defected's worldwide events. During 2014's BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen, Nick launched Trust, an event series that highlights the importance of visuals and curation of vibe with air london boss Daivd Oyston. Trust showcases have been held during Miami's WMC, Barcelona for Sonar and Budapest, to name a few. Chicago is slated to be the highlight of the US Trust tour this November under the curation of Electro Static Productions.
Each Trust event has had special guests co-headline the night - like minded artists who are true masters of their craft, thus ensuring the highest caliber of music programming and presentation from the first beat to the last. It is an honor to welcome Anja Schneider, Mobilee Records label boss and selector extraordinair, with many fan worldwide. Anja is a Chicago favorite and we are so pleased that Nick and David have elected Anja to play Chicago, her first appearance here since 2010. Anja’s storied career began when she was a radio producer for Kiss FM and Fritz Radio. In short order, Anja had her own show, Dance Under The Blue Moon, which launched her into the dance public eye as a DJ and taste maker. Building on that success, Schneider soon was producing her own tracks and, with the help of Ralf Kollmann, set up Mobilee Records in 2005. Mobilee soon became the sweetheart of German techno labels, boasting a roster of up-and-coming artists with a new and refreshing approach to the then minimal landscape, artists like Sebo K, Pan-Pot, GummiHz and Exercise One to name a few. Since it’s inception, Mobilee has come to represent quality and forward thinking in dance music, and this formula has paid off, with Anja herself being the young label’s 50th release. Her keen ear, thoughtful programming and business mindedness ranks her amongst one of the most successful DJs in the world, a feat for a woman in this generally male dominated industry. Anja's eyes are always focused squarely on the future so be sure to expect much more from her for years to come. Anja is a perpetual motion machine, always gigging, producing and moving bodies on dance floors world round.
Chicago's own DJ Lady D of Superjane and D'Lectable music fame and Classic, Rebirth and Balance artist Dj Diz are a tough act to follow, as both are world renowned headliners, who are known for their respective skills behind the decks. Seamless mixing, innovative track selection and an uncompromising reputations as top selectors find both Lady D and Diz poised to be legends of not only Chicago house, but in the world market, as well. With nearly twenty years behind the decks, respectively, their talents and unique interpretations of the Chicago house sound, melded with techno and their own original tracks, this duo of Chicago mainstays will deliver a set that is not to be missed. Jordan Bradley, a mainstay on the Varsity Allstars lineups and at Smart Bar will open the night.
Chicago's edition of the Trust event will take place at a fabulous Chicago centric virgin event space in the West Loop. Situated in a repurposed factory, this unique and fresh venue will serve as the canvas upon which the night will be painted, literally, as 3D projection mapping will be provided by a top visual artist out of London. From the high ceilings adorned with chandeliers to the effort put into the littlest of details throughout the space, the home for Trust in Chicago is truly unique and special.
