Overall, I think you are right.
But I do think there are still a lot of people going to the club, regardless of the event, let alone the resident.
You can't assume that the head door guy at Space is an idiot, he knows the scene.
So when he's telling people, like I experienced back when, to come back next week for Tiesto, when he's screwing them for Luciano, that implies something about the target audience.
As laughable as the statement is to us here, it's prob. spot on for a lot of the people going to the newest hot-spot.
As to the concert venue vibe, the physical layout is at least a major fault: the boths, and the sound systems basically make it unidirectional.
The crowds attitude mathes to that.
Don't know who's following whom here, chicken-and-egg.
It's a shame that locals can rarely establish themselves as residents here anymore.
If you can't make a name for yourself as main drawn in your home market, how are you supposed to do that anywhere else?
Most of the visiting talent everyone rushes to see, did it that way, and elsewhere that's still true, just think the Ostgut roster.
But NYC? It's really only Francois K left (with solo nights), and interestingly enough the only place where people actually DONT always face the both.... |

Clubbing in NYC isn't what it was then. It's a new generation of people, new attitudes, new music. Everything about it is just different. Clubs have turned into concert venues with DJ's playing 2 hour sets rather than having their own resident that people came to see every week. Nowadays you go for the event, not for the club. The vibe is just totally different too, nobody even dances anymore, it's just a bunch of head bobbing. Bringing back an old name isn't going to bring back the old ways lol.
People are assuming they're trying to recreate the past. I highly doubt that's the plan. I'm sure he wants to get back in the business and is banking on the famous name to bring success. |
^^^ Some good stuff said in this post! AGREED! |

"NO COMPS, NO GUESTLIST, NO VIP LINE, NO TABLES"
(straight from the flyer)
WOW!! Very honorable!!!
But Business-wise it is probably a mistake...
Honestly, Pacha is clearly mastering the current EDM atmosphere for creating a club which generates incredible revenue. I don't think anyone can argue with that. Behind the scenes, they probably have a ton of exclusive booking contracts with many of these DJs, which really prevents virtually any up and coming club to compete!
Output on the other hand gets pretty big names into their tiny club.. I wonder why or how they manage to do that? Kaskade, DubFire, Liebing, Moudaber, COX!, etc etc...
As RobDawG previously mentioned, generally speaking these days, people don't go to a club for the club, but in fact, go for the DJ playing there. So, historically speaking, if you can manage to bring in the biggest name DJs, then it would seem, you will likely succeed.
IMO, SoundFactory will likely fail if they can't bring in big names to draw in crowds.
IMO the only other way to succeed in the current EDM atmosphere with a successful and profitable event is to do a warehouse party.
Cityfox, Robot Heart, Resolute, BLKmarket, I Feel, etc etc... |
