I usually don't mind the popups..its just that webcam one that doesn't go away when you click the x in the corner...the rest i just right click, close..

for the webcam one you gotta press alt - f4.

i never get one, its usually an average of about 4

as far as offsetting some of the costs, what about setting up a paypal system with benefits?

for example, you pay 5 bucks, and then you can change your username (instead of it being free now), get to enter a special area, maybe the ability to download extra tracks, etc. 5 bucks isnt a lot, and if the incentive is good enough, it could work out nicely... at least to help with some of the cost
Az
NO!!!!!! I thought I'd seen enough yes car credit ads to last me a life time, but one just popped up in my face

rofl....more bitter ppl.....my plan is working.....hehehe

on a serious note...ya need revenue to run a site...so i don't mind the odd popup.

Hmm paying for download, umm.. lol, no.

Besides, sites with those paypal buttons have their visitors assume they're making a ton on donations when in actuality they may get $5 a month.

Alt+f4 also works... but when I have to do this every time I load a new page, it gets downright annoying.

here are a few from a quick google search:

http://www.junkbusters.com/cookies.html

http://www.cookiecentral.com/content.phtml?area=2&id=2 - a whole lot of information there

http://www.cookiecentral.com/ccstory/

What I really hate is that doubleclick bs. Every time I turn my cookies on and browse for more than 5 minutes I end up with them on my computer. Im not accusing TA of hosting this kind of crap, but I dont want to have to turn my cookies on and off every time I try load up the forums.

And this anti ad-buster thing seems way over the top. Tell me, swamper, is it really necessary to cram advertisements down peoples throats? Does your sponsor/advertiser/whatever complain that people may be getting by them? Im just wondering why all this is necessary on a music site.
torontotrance
hmmmmm...funny how people complain

swamper is not driving it down people's throats...true i had the same problem with many popups....but i changed the options in my IE browser and it works fine now..i get one per session.

Funny that expect to get everything for free, something has to pay for the site's upkeep, something has to keep it going, after all, it does cost money to run this site. You people are just ungreatful for the site.
jploveparade
What pop-ups? No pop-ups here :)
DJ_Shockwav
i only get one, just one

i used to have that problem, with popups and stuff...
i reformatted and it's fine
must be all that porn you download
Linx_da_cat
yeah guys...there is only ONE popup on the forums. ONE. that means one per every login. that's it. so if you get another pop up when you come back to the main forums page, then your settings in IE are messed.

Those sites seem to be more a rant on DoubleClick and it's rise to being the #1 Ad company on the net more than anything else, anyways if you're that paranoid and you use IE you can go to Tools->Internet Options->Security->Privacy->Edit and you can specify which sites you allow cookies from.

Impossible? Not on my OS anyway.

1. Make a new text document.
2. Open it.
3. Without typing anything in it, go to save as.
4. Go to the directory of index.dat (I forget what it is).
5. Make sure you're saving as type All Files *.*
6. Type index.dat and hit save.

For me, anyway, this reduces the size of the file index.dat to 0 bytes.

Cheers,

Arbiter
