Listening to music

I'm guessing this topic may have been beaten to death here previously, but I'm not entirely sure, and I'm genuinely interested..
How do you people listen to music? How much do you do it? Do you actually put time aside from "normal" stuff to listen to music?
Do you have something playing throughout the (working) day? During your possible workout? During the evening too?
Do you carry an mp3 player with you, or play music from your phone?
How does your possible significant other affect your listening habits? (Mine likes Rammstein, which is kind of unfortunate for me. Ich. Ich hasse. Ich hasse es.)
It's past 5 am here, and this is the first time in many, many months that I've actually just sat down for the whole night and most of the morning on my sofa, listening to music, doing nothing else. Almost needless to say, I've enjoyed this time like nothing else. I try to make music myself, and it's obvious my skill hasn't developed as much as it could've in the past years just because of the little time I have put into listening to new music and actually putting thought into listening to it. Since starting our company, I've worked/studied for pretty much 10 - 12 hours every day.
My Last.fm account says I listen 13 tracks per day, which is far less than I'd like to. I have to communicate a lot at work, and it eats up a lot of the listening time there, which I've found to be a really good time for for discovering new music on Youtube (the recommendations actually serve their purpose for me most of the time). How many tracks do you play per day (according to last.fm or yourself)?
Just a few years ago I used to stay up a whole night at least once a week just doing random stuff with music playing in the background, and I really miss those times. Now, in contrast, I listened to an album I bought two months ago for the first time tonight.
Do you still have these sprees of totally immersing yourself in new discoveries that have you wantlisting multiple releases on Discogs per day?
I know many people here go to music events on a weekly basis, and music could somewhat be described to be the center of their lives. I see most of the people here putting a substantial amount of their free time to listening to and discovering new music, which is ing amazing, and makes me think I should've picked the 9 to 5 route instead of starting something of my own. I see the amount of new music posted here weekly, and feel overwhelmed. On some aspects that's a really good thing for me though.
I'd like to know how, and how much you listen to music in general, people. I have about 15 albums on my shelf that I haven't even opened yet. If I manage my time like this in the future, that 15 albums will easily serve me for the next three years or so, and I don't want that to happen.
Oh, and just to share my current mood, I want to embed this track I'm currently playing. Might seem juvenile to many of you, but hey, that's just the way it is:
Now off for a smoke and watch the stars. Life would be ing bliss if you wouldn't have to sleep. |

I listen to one album from my collection per day, usually on my daily commute, and in (mostly) alphabetical order. Yes I'm serious.
That's my set schedule though. When I'm doing tasks at home (or just wasting time on the interwebs), I'll throw on different things depending on what I'm doing. Sometimes I'll play something specific if its for research, other times I'll fire the ol' Shuffle option on my library, and if I feel like indulging, I'll grab a favorite, lay back with headphones, and drift. |

| I always listen when I'm on the road off my phone, mostly old stuff. Given that most of my moving around the city is done by walking, this provides me with plenty of time. Also during the evenings, while listening to the newer releases and searching mellowly on the internet for stuff. |

Nice one.
I hardly ever actually just sit and listen to music anymore. But when I find the time for it I am always glad I did. |

I listen in my car to and from work, never at work.
In the evening behind my laptop while browsing and watching tv. |

| Since I work with radio I listen to music a lot during the day. It's part of what I get paid for after all. Many times to find new stuff or check how the current stuff in rotation is working but sometime just to have something on as background while doing other things. |

Good Thread.
I listen to music alot, not always electronic music. My main styles are wide variety of electronic, nostalgic hip hop, and some 70s tunes. Couple rock tunes, but not many.
Listen to music pretty much anytime im in the car whether it be on the way to school or practice, the beach, or road tripping it to see some friends. Other times include while Im at the gym lifting or running.
And I listen to music while Im doing homework or reading.Ive found it improve my concentration tremendously. I have a whole playlist meant just for reading.
Obviously the style of the music changes to reflect what I am currently doing. |

| Nowadays generally at home on my computer, when I'm browsing the net or chatting with someone. Mostly when the mood strikes me, so there isn't a particular time nor a specific amount of time. I also usually check Soundcloud daily and set a time to check out new tracks, whereas new mixes usually take longer to get around to. |

Why would you listen to music while watching TV? Isn't that hard to hear one or the other? |

I had an acting teacher who supposedly listened to Classical music while watching basketball. :wtf:
I also occasionally listen to music while browsing for something to watch on mute. I still don't understand how people read novels while listening to their ipods. |

It is if you want to hear both, but I use headphones so it's the one or the other most of the time. Mostly I have an evening news show at the tv, depending of the subject I listen. Also during soccer matches or like yesterday Formula1 I have time to listen some music.
And when my wife is watching a series, I can listen music as well. |
