I completely agree with you if you were to say that to the original mix. Have you heard the Tek Tonic remix?

I don't believe so. I think the only other mix that i've really heard is the Armin mix. I'll youtube it now.

The original version sucks ass, or the Armin remix. However, have you heard the Tek Tonic mix? That one makes the track sound really, really good. Give it a shot and lemme know! I was really close to at one point saying that this track was pretty hyped up for no good.

This link will expire soon so grab it while you can. If anyone wants to play it in their set, do my ego a favour and credit my re-edit.

Will do! I honestly think it is way better to post custom or unique edits in the official track listing. It always looks intricately more unique to me.
Mr Game+Watch
For trance? Randy Katana - In Silence. This song was like the biggest song on TA in '04 but nothing really stood out.

Also Blawan - Getting Me Down. And any hyped up but now-forgotten minimal song from '06-07.

I liked it much more then Sunshine though, I never saw it as overrated, it rarely gets mentioned, actually none of the Members of Mayday tracks get mentioned often. The intro of the live version at Mayday 97 just was awesome.

I just feel like it really lacked the intensity that many anthems from that time did, especially given the setting it was for. I do think it's one of those tracks that could be remixed into something nice though.
I've seen it listed quite a bit on "best ever" lists.
Let's put it this way: On youtube, Sonic Empire has about as many views as one of Tiesto's "Traffic" so it's pretty well known I'd say. ;)

I once mixed the intro of the live version into the maxi cd version and recorded it on tape back then. Didn't have cd players with pitch control, it was lucky shot, but sounded cool :).
Regarding the number of views, I noticed many older Germans and Dutch replying to older tracks. It doesn't perfectly reflect it's current popularity in my opinion.
Probably some of those best ever lists also are made by people of my age. I do think Sonic Empire did have an impact back then, but IMO never got overrated. To me it sounded different then other tracks at the time though.
I must say that after Sonic Empire I didn't listen any more to Members of Mayday, e.g. 10 In 01 I really disliked.

Actually, after several listens of Li Kwan - Point Zero, it is kind of overrated. It gets points for sounding like what it did in 1994, but considering all the progressive trance that came after it, it does sound like your typical standard prog trance track.

I don't get it, so because all that came after it makes it overrated? Like the first comment on youtube at this one, it also blew me away when I bought Reactivate 10 in 1995. Li Kwan - Point Zero (1994)
In my view many of the tracks mentioned weren't overrate, but maybe it's different when you experienced them at the time. Point Zero wouldn't even have crossed my mind to nominate as overrated to be honest.

I always thought Underworld - Born Slippy was overrated. When it became popular my thoughts were:"Wait, didn't I have it already at a Trancemaster and never listened to it".

Was this the original one or Born Slippy .NUXX? They are two entirely different tracks, and it's the .NUXX version that is very popular.

It was the original one on Trancemaster 10 in 1995. Discogs link
Trainspotting did help of course in 1996. The .NUXX version didn't make me liking it a lot more.

.

yes because if it was truly timeless, all the tracks that came after it would still pale in comparison.

Not that I would say it was the first, I really don't know, but if it was, I can't see why being the first track of many would make it overrated now. Just because many others later on made similar tracks? Feel free to explain what I'm missing here.
Is Children also overrated then?
