Embarrassed to be associated with Trance?

Was there once a time you were embarrass to be associated with trance when people ask what you listen to? I was, because right when it started to get huge and popular around early to mid 2000's where everyone and their grandmas were playing trance in their cars and wearing neon bracelets (at least in my part of town), it became embarrassing that I was looked at as a sheep and jumping on the bandwagon. Mind you I was listening to trance music years before and was the one playing trance music in my car and getting stares from other motorists like, "WTF is that"?..... and now I see all these kids running around and ruining trance with no self-control like some little kid in a candy store and acts like they know it all.
Yeah, I'm that jaded old man. :tongue2 |

But now I'm glad these posers jumped off the trance bandwagon onto the "Dubstep" bandwagon.
I remember coming on this site like 15 years ago and every 30 second there was a response or a new thread, it was heavy traffic back then for TranceAddict. Now there's barely a reply in a day, which I guess is good because the sheeps are thinning out and branching to something else. |

I think all these big name DJ's are embarrassed a bit to be associated with trance, which is why their music has changed throughout the years and leaning towards a more "house" feel. All the big name DJ's were making that transition years ago trying to established themselves not only as strictly a trance dj. Because you all know, "House" people are snobby and tend to look down on Trance..... only because I think alot of younger people got into trance music and kinda ruined it for the older people who've been there long ago before it became a trend.
But yeah, House people are snobby. :tongue2 |

I don't think so. They probably were aware trance couldn't last forever as other genres didn't in the 90's when they were listening. They made it big, but knew it would get less at some point. The just go with the flow. Didn't Jam&Spoon or BBE do the same? |

Nah, I still think these big name dj's became bigheaded and want to differentiate themselves from, say, all these drugged out kids who attends raves for trance music. House people seem to think they are more sophisticated while sippin' their wine and listening to music that were made for Calvin Klein ads and stores like GAP and Abercrombie & Fitch while shopping for sheep clothings..... that's House music.
Sorry but, House doesn't give that outta space flying at 10,000 miles per hour enlightenment feeling that Trance does. Only the true hardcore trance enthusiast knows. :tongue2 |

I was never embarrassed but I was in fact insecure about how people would judge me a long time ago when I had a low self image because I was not sure of how people will think of me if I were to be listening to trance.
I was not listening to Rihanna, Lil Wayne, or One Direction, or some K-Pop ****** group band. So when people listened to my I would almost get insecure because humans tend to judge things they don't understand... and that's exactly what the average mindless and uneducated person did whenever they heard my music. Nowadays I laugh at them internally for their lack of understanding and respect.
System-J would consider me as some sort of superiority complex, maybe it is... but I dealt with a lot of bull just because I listened to different music. |

| Oh, I'd wager you're suffering from a lot more than just a superiority complex. |

| I'm completely embarrassed to be associated with trance. Even coming on this forum is a bit of a dirty secret. |

I think the people they're playing for are the same like when they played trance. They are all just party people. Real house producers, like the one I know well, say they aren't even playing house, he's Morning Factory. Check it out, does this sound like what they play?
I'm not even embarrassed for liking Scooter in the 90's. That says it all. |
