the exodus of labels from Armada
View this Thread in Original format
Light The Fuse
just been reading up on this a bit. seems like things have changed?
Paradox Lost
Aren't half the labels founded by and within Armada itself?

In any case, the only major breakaway I know about is Schulz taking his Coldharbour independent, but other than that, what have you heard?
Sykonee
Wasn't there a time when Armada was gobbling up labels en masse? Could be they grew too big for their britches, and the return investment for joining the Armada Army ("SEE! Your music on A State Of Trance!") wasn't worth the sacrifices being made ("CONFORM! To Whatever Bull Armin Must Promote.").
Light The Fuse
subculture, yes - cold harbour, magic island, vandit? have gone indie - , york (artist), tytanium, ava, flashover have all gone to black hole from what i can gather - some of this news seems to be months old - some of it seems quite new.... seems like blackhole is the new armada?

*disclaimer - I really don't know - just what I'm reading on the interwebz*
Paradox Lost
Whatever, I don't think being independent results in an especially 'independent' sound for any label that wishes to both remain trance and remain successful within the Armada controlled demographic. Maybe they've just become dissatisfied with what has since become a dance music N.W.O (for anyone who used to watch professional wrestling in the late 90's).

Would that make Schulz a member of N.W.O. Wolfpac?

1: Armada stopped paying people and now expect 20% from their artists bookings.

2: All good demos they give to Armin for his label to only grow him more and they don't give a about any other artists.

Think about all the artists they have had under their umbrella during their run. None of them had the promotion/marketing they put into Armin. Armada only promotes ASOT and Armin now, not any of the other artists radio shows or gigs.

It would be a good thing for the trance scene when they close their doors.

I think a revolution in trance needs to come from somewhere else, not from the Armada camp
but people have been so brainwashed into thinking that Armada is the golden ticket to success.

The people that have all left Armada have realized that. They do not have any "legends" left. When the new kids coming up figure it out as well, then Armada is done.

Is there any reliable numbers on listeners to ASOT over the years? Would be interesting to see how they've fared over the past decade.

Good. Armada is destroying electronic music.

Working hard on it brother...my cover version of "Moonride" (originally a track released in 1998 on the Wash label) made it to the Juno charts when it was released, everyone I introduce to trance seems to enjoy it...even my 44 year old mom likes it! She really liked "Progressive Attack" by Brooklyn Bounce. So all trance needs is exposure really...once it becomes easily accessible again, no doubt we'll be able to fill entire arenas for raves just like the golden age.

Hard to say, but I eventually see him eventually becoming a distinct version of Sting, side chaining from the rafters.
