Death/Black EDM?

My friend played some music in my car as I was driving with a group a friends to a restaurant for a birthday party.
He seemed to be experimenting with some weird I was not used to. It seemed to be some sort of goth, death, or black EDM. Basically the beats somewhat resemble EDM, but it had a very dark and sinister feel to it. It felt more kinda like some evil psychedelic . Kinda like how there is a death metal, this one was like death EDM. Not sure what it quite is, but it was not really danceable, at all and was meant more for a "trip" rather than an expected experience you get from trance.
So anyways, I'm like.... hearing these dark sounds of metal scraping against each other, creepy echoed voices in the backgrounds, people laughing maniacally, babies crying, people gasping for air, and etc....
wtf is this within the EDM realm? |

| It was probably industrial. Did you get any band names? |

here's one that I heard.
Is this more for a psychedelic / LSD / shroom trip rather than E? I couldnt imagine myself enjoying this if I was on E.
edit: After looking on discogs, it says Psy-Trance, or Progressive Trance. not really my style though. I was more into the stuff AlphaStarred made and some of the stuff you showed me 'J.
I've heard Electro Industrial too though, some of it is pretty good. |

Here's a better example of what you listened to, which J00f used to play:
It's just Psy-trance, some of which is better than others. |

Yeah, that track does nothing for me...that's unfortunately what psytrance is defined as. Monotonous beat with some random sound effect bull that sounds like every single song in the genre.
I miss when this was psytrance...

I don't take psychedelics or hallucinogenics, but I imagine this track is to LSD what Calvin Harris is to MDMA. |

A fair bit of certain styles of darkpsy are influenced by black and death metal. Generally the guitars in it aren't really that heavy though and that's probably not actually what you're looking for. Generally things don't get much more heavy than the sortof stuff you hear in far east ghost. In terms of dark stuff though, darkpsy has loads of it. In terms of dark stuff on the other hand, EBM/goth industrial stuff isn't that dark. Sure there'll be vaguely depressing but in terms of stuff with evil scrapey sounds or stuff that crosses over with dark ambient pretty much the only stuff that does it is darkpsy afaik. I do remember a few years back I heard a mix that was dnb crossed with dark ambient but even still that style's rare.
There's definitely some illbient or similar style industrial stuff that has a beat that might be what you're looking for, but it seems like certain styles of darkpsy is what you had in mind.

Discogs doesn't really go into detail with psytrance subgenres very well. They don't actually have darkpsy as a label on there at all.
A few possibly relevant tracks:
The closest thing to black/death metal in darkpsy off the top of my head:
Some dark ambientish/horror darkpsy, dark prog & psytech:

| now tell me this, is darkpsy supposed to be for some LSD/hallucination experience or something? I couldnt possibly imagine listening to this on ecstasy. |

In terms of drugs, it definitely is generally more associated with LSD, rather than ecstasy. Just like the "Dizzy Drops" track I posted, which is likely a reference to drops of acid. |

| Ahh yes, I love the artist Hallucinogin or Shpongle. I also loved that track that AlphaStarred posted from that J00F track from years ago. I can't really stand darkpsy at the moment, but if I ever get my hands on DMT then I will definitely get smashed up on some of this stuff. |

never tried it myself but after reading about i think its something you need to plan a little and be carefull with. some messed up can happen it seems (with your perception of things, especially time and space and relation to humans), just reading people experiences aroudn it gives me the creeps. as ive understood its similar to dying and being reborn lol.

How can you possibly have understood that?
As for DMT, make sure you're on a comfortable couch and are able to lay back for the next 15-20 minutes after taking a hit. ;) |
