If New Year's Eve = NYE, and NYE = December 31st - why do most NYE parties refer to Dec 31 2014 as being "NYE 2015" ?
:wtf::haha::eyespop: |

| Because it's the eve of the new year, or the year known as 2015 :p |

| Just to prevent the drunks to say Happy 2014! as they were too lazy to call it NYE 2014-2015. |

i guess its an american thing, like 9/11 isnt 9th of november for some reason. |
That actually is a good thing as it's useful to order filenames:
Europe
20122014.txt (20 December 2014)
31012014.txt (31 January 2014)
Wrong order..
vs
U.S.
20140131.txt
20141220.txt
In Holland we call it "Old Year's Eve" = Oudejaarsavond |

^^^ Agree with this. YYYYMMDD is perfect for that. DDMMYYYY is confusing.
Standards are funny... even though we're metric in Canada you rarely hear someone refer to their height in cm/m or weight in kg. |

What about temperatures then? I really hate it when Fahrenheit is used, 0 degrees freezing, 100 degrees boiling temperature of water is more practical IMO. As mechanical engineer I prefer SI (International System of Units) anyways. |

I'm pretty sure Fahrenheit is the German word for "trolling Anglos".

The change is too recent (40 years is not even a person's lifespan), and your Southerly only neighbours use it all the time (keeping it familiar to you). I wouldn't be surprised if you guys referred to your height in inches but mentioned distances in metres if that's the unit used in traffic signs. |

Yeah traffic distances are in metres... however real estate is more frequently measured in sq. ft for overall size + ft/inches for room size.
Temps are in Celcius almost everywhere with the exception of some hotels and stuff that are hard-coded to Fahrenheit.
I also use 24hr time on my phone ...but I'm strange that way. |

I can't think any other way. It's like the day has 2 twelve hour cycles, rather than just 24 hours total :D |
