JP, thanks again!

i finished watching it, and i have to say that it was really well done... true, it was very artsy, but this isn't the PvD DVD (can't wait for that one!!!)... what was up with the architect and the photographer though... i mean, ok, they're trying to show how these different artists do what they love... but it doesn't make any sense why this is in the documentary... however, the loveparade scene was amazing... i can't wait to go again... and it was interesting to get a glimpse into his private life... not all about trance (or, should i say "electronic music") but also about his life... i enjoyed it a lot

After the documentary on Arte last Friday...

Paul Van Dyk will release a DVD tentatively titled PVD DVD this fall. Featuring footage shot on the German DJ's recent world tour, the DVD is a compilation of fresh remixes of tracks from the artist's trio of full-length albums. The decision to make the remixes followed a battle this past January with his former record label in Germany, MFS. Van Dyk won.
"I got all the rights to my back catalog and wanted to do something special, rather than putting it out the way it is," he says. "I remixed all the tracks -- 'For an Angel,' 'Seven Ways' -- the most important tracks of my career."

For the DVD, the DJ experimented with newly developed 5.1 surround sound technology, producing the final mix in a Berlin club just last week. Van Dyk says the project will also feature one new track, "Animation," a single taken from the Mexican film La Mano Del Zudro, which he recently finished scoring.

Van Dyk is also polishing up the music for the Australian film One Perfect Day, starring Leeanna Walsman, who played assassin Zam Wesell in Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones. One Perfect Day is a love story, bridging the worlds of classical and dance music. "It's about a classical musician who falls in love with this rave-oriented girl," Van Dyk explains. "He's writing this piece of music for her, and it transforms from a classical piece of music into a dance track, a pop single." While the soundtrack is mainly a dance-orientated endeavor, Van Dyk will dabble in the classical world and record with composer David Hopson and the Melbourne Philharmonic this November.

To work on the film scores Van Dyk has taken a break from recording the sixteen tracks he's written for the follow-up to his last album of original material, 2001's Out There and Back. "My artist albums are really important to me, and I didn't want to confuse them," he said.

The album is due out next year and features British chanteuse Jan Johnston (known for her work with the BT) on the track "I Don't Care." Van Dyk's lyrics expound on life as a superstar DJ. "People are always asking how is it when people recognize you on the street and how is it to be a superstar DJ, and I always try to explain that this is not important to me," he says. "The lyrics are about this . . . pinpointing the issue of what people think is so glamorous and stylish of what DJ's do. I didn't do this because I wanted to be glamorous."

I hope that people after seeing this documentary (even without subtitles) understand that Van Duck isn't just a great DJ/producer but also a great human being. Living in capitalist East-Germany until his 18th made him the way he is. Even in the system he managed to form his own opinion about music.

He admires the musical quality of Alanis Morissette, but didn't meet her yet although he had many chances to do so. He thinks the music speaks for itself, and meeting her could influence his opinion.

The whole documentary long you can see he's really just a modest, shy guy. He isn't into it for the money, every gig is as exiting as the first one. Paul wishes to make music until he dies behind the turntables.

The short look into his house confirms his personality. He likes quality and design (as in his music), but keeps it simple. As he loves Berlin so much, he moved to Wets-Berlin but didn't buy an expensive villa somewhere in the woods :)
