Has anyone noticed that prog house is so dead for the past half decade.

Wow I mean cmon, its so frustrating not see to any good djs in my area who spin prog house. Exactly all my peers are into the opposite.
All talk is now deep house and techno. Even the current RA poll is full of the same stuff, no offense.
Can you name some good prog house djs other than Guy J, Nick Warren, or Hernan, that would be nice. |

| I'm sure there would be plenty of good progressive house DJ's if there was actually any good progressive house to work with. I take it you're referring to that golden age between 2003 and 2006, and yeah, that sound has been long-since dead, with everyone but seemingly Nick Warren having moved on. If there is anything or anyone worth listening to, you'll find it on hybridized.org, which has been my go-to source of prog. house since the height of the genre. |

There's Progressive House in the 90's which both Sasha and Digweed spun alot back then and it had it's peak around '97 then there's who everyone called the Mcprog era that had it's peak beginning of 2003 and edged out late 2004 to fade out completely in 2006.
But i wouldn't put Marcus Shulz in the same league as e.g. Hybrid. But his Edge Factor shows in the 90's was ace though! |

The McProg (McTrance, really) of Schulz and company during the mid 2000's ran somewhat parallel but was still independent from the actual progressive house of that same period. I'm talking about the stuff Dave Seaman was pushing out on his Therapy Sessions compilations, Warren on GU: Shanghai, Cattaneo on Renaissance Masters: vol. 2, etc. Yeah, you'd see the occasional overlap of some of the same names, but the simple and obvious difference is that Schulz's take on progressive was closer to trance, and the acts I mentioned were closer to house. |

Calling that period a "golden age" can only be nostalgia talking.
It feels like "progressive" is dissolving a bit these days, and overlapping with both deep house and melodic techno. The return of melody to dance music has resulted in all kinds of deep-prog-tech hybrid tunes that don't sit in any particular camp. |

I agree with this. I think Guy J has had the biggest influence on shaping the current tech house/progressive sound (especially his success with Digweed/Bedrock circa 2009)and has led to many producers trying to emulate his success. The trend has lasted quite a while now but I think it's opened the mind of many producers who wouldn't have experimented otherwise. That's the positive about it for me anyways.
I can't really say it's been the worst trend around. It surely beats the hell out of the stuff that preceded it which was the boring tech house/minimal trend which the big prog guys were playing around 10 years ago. Still, the search for pure progressive house is most likely lost as we know it. Every critic will say it's "too trancey" or "too techy" or even "too old school". Really tough to win today in this category. Anyways, one guy who I've always thought was a great prog producer is Mihai Popoviciu. Very versatile producer and yes, I expect everyone and their mom to tell me this isn't Progressive House.
