I remember going to an Eddie Halliwell event at Websterhall back in 2007/2008 where 10 people showed up.
Those were the days! |

would make sense if it was just 4 djs with longer sets
you wouldn't need to spend so much with dj booking fees and charge more of a reasonable price.
i guess i just dont understand..... |

^^^Totally agree with this
I have always wondered myself, why do they do this?
I theorize the opening and closing DJs do it for free? (more to get their music out there?) or perhaps, the headliners want premium to play extended sets? just seems silly... :( |

A little bit of everything.. Opening and closing DJs don't play for free, but they do play for significantly less than headliners in the interest of exposure. Also most headliners do want more money for an extended set (although there are exceptions).
Realistically though, extended sets generally appeal to die-hard fans much more than the general population. You're also getting different crowds of different artists when you book more talent / and also diverse genres which is much more of an issue for a big event or festivals where you might actually 'max out' on your pull for one specific genre or DJ. This is why you often see festivals with loads of names on them from all different styles. Maximizes the draw on each end to help cover the added costs involved.
just my 2c anyways |

I think that's right in general.
But, this one really is just one genre, for all intents and purposes.
Point is: 7 hours at $100 bucks, with 1h sets is expensive, more than most festis really.
(not as much as AvB orother EDM-crap at the Garden, but that's hardly the yardstick to use IMO)
But really, festival atmosphere and their shortcomings is for festis, not this.
To me, it just reduces the quality of each act.
And, why Best Buy?
That's got to increase the costs, no?
Is that a draw that wouldn't be there for a warehouse or something? |

Was originally commenting more in general than for this specific show - but would agree this one is for a single genre (which I really like personally). Also keep in mind the strategy is very personal for every promoter and ultimately what they think is best for their crowds. A lot of times what works for one is not necessarily the same for another, so there is a bit of experimentation involved.
Also honestly not sure the costs of throwing an event at Best Buy Theater but generally when you're doing a raw space there's an insane amount of work to be done in terms of permits, liquor licensing, sound, and lighting equipment (not to mention security and staffing). All said and done sometimes it just makes more financial sense (or is just a lot easier) to get an established venue where you can be sure it will be handled properly on a large scale. |

| Damn I want to go to this! The pre party looks better than the main actually since I've already seen JOC 3x and I've been dying to see Noble Six! Plus I've never seen Standerwick or Mark Sherry but have listened to their stuff and it's solid uplifting trance. |

| Can't stand bestbuy theater. It's such a sterile, generic concert venue. |

That's a really good point.
I'd think that the 1896 in BK would fit that bill though.
They're pricey apparently, but then so is BB, I'd think.
As far as atmosphere, that's def. better at 1896, and I cant see bb being a huge draw to the crowd esscalal wants to get, where that crowd would be driven away by 1896.
but they must have had a reason they think makes this work well, whatevr that is, just seems like no one here can figure that out :) |

I agree, this is actually better than current WMC trance events. Want to go to. |

| WMC line up sucks this year :( Only good shows are Markus Schulz @ Space with MIKE (Push) and PVD @ Space. And no Fila or JOC in sight which kind of makes me sad. |
