lol, well then

so many good parties at this venue....will be sad to see it go.
in particular because it's so close to my condo right now. hehe
so nice to have a 10 minute stroll home after a night of shananigans. :)

Sasha & Digweed Canada Day -1999 has to take top honours for me.
I had mostly hung out at Industry back in those days and was
more into house. What Sasha and Digweed laid down that
night/morning changed my musical taste to this day. Inspired me
to buy two turntables and a mixer and learn how to dj myself.
That was also back when Sasha and Diggers played extended
sets...they were so big at the time that even Guv stayed
open till they were done. Magical.

A close second would probably go back into the RPM days.
Not one night in particular, just that era.
Was definitly Chris Shep. who lured me down there.
Advertising on the radio...what a promoter he was.
Drinking underage, not a care in the world. Awesome times.

Not sure this club sits aside Paradise Garage,The Warehouse,
or the Hacienda in the grand scheme of things but it is as close
as Toronto ever got, and it will be missed for all the same reasons.

As for Mark Oliver....What a legend! He is so talented and
could have travelled the world like the rest of the big names.
But chose to stay close to home every Saturday and rock it out
for us instead. All the best in what comes next to all involved...

"one more"!!
cue encore,

My all time-time favourite party was Labour of Love 2004. I think I started going to Guv that year, and that was my first of many All-Access parties. It was the first time I saw Deep Dish, and Ferry Corsten. Ferry Corsten's set was also one of my all-time favourite sets. I will never forget when he played PUNK, and everyone in the Kool Haus sang along, and even chanted to the beat when there were no words to sing. lol I remember there being girls at the front waving gigantic flags, one for Holland, and one for Canada. Condensation was dripping from the ceiling in Kool Haus. It looked like it was raining in there! Disgusting and cool at the same time.

Armin's 8-Hour set in Kool Haus for Labour of Love 2008 , was also the best trance set that I ever heard there.

Canada Day 2010. Hearing non-stop techno bombs in Guv from Carlo Lio, Dubfire, and Richie Hawtin.

I also really enjoyed Moby's set in Kool Haus at Decadence 2007

Sasha at Thriller 2007, and Sasha 2008 for the INVOL2VER Tour

John Digweed, Oct. 11th, 2014. Honestly, this night last year, reminded me of the best of nights from years past. John played one of the top 3 sets I've ever heard played at Guv. The crowd was also great that night, which obviously makes a big difference. I'm glad that I had such a memorable night there, in the Final year of Guv.

I also had many memorable nights in The Drink, and The Gallery. I'm going to miss this club like no other. Attending Guv, along with System Soundbar when it was still around, were life changing experiences for me. I met so many wonderful people that I am still friends with today. I used to call Guv my second home, because I spent so many hours there. R.I.P Guv. Guv Luv for Life! I'll try to track down some of my favourite memories in pics and vids when I have some free time

great shares for the 2 posts above
Moral Hazard
All by favourite memories of the Guv are so fuzzy they have become more a vague and general sense of sketchy good times. Few of these memories have anything to do with which DJ dropped which track or what dark corner of the club one event or another transpired in; rather, they all revolve around the people I experienced those nights with. The Guv was a great venue for making great memories but while it may be no longer many of those with whom I made those memories persist so very little is lost today.

I also want to point out a couple of nights I hated:

Sandra Collins in the main room...Worst Guv Night Ever

Unkle Live DJ performance on the stage in the mainroom....also terrible but perhaps I didn't appreciate that genre of music then. I just remember hating it.

Sidney Samson Main room....The only time I heard a dj play Gangam style in the mainroom....we were out the door 5 minutes later.
