Since I last visited a trance website.

How is the "scene" these days? I just checked ferry corsten's track "pogo" and it was absolute bull, and Armins "this is what it feels like" is possibly the largest slice of cheddar I've ever come across. And Tiesto? Don't even get me started.

I am hoping that these chaps have merely departed and that other people have filled the void. Who are the new kids on the block, I want to know if trance (as it was) really is dead and gone, or whether there are still people holding a torch for it? Thrillseekers seems to have stuck to his guns and comes out with some cracking stuff every now and then.

Try Basil O'Glue, Orkidea or Gui Baronne... sometimes they surprise me with great sets/productions.

And yeah, the superstars sucks these days. Specially the dutch ones. I heard a oakie set last week that almost made me laugh.

edit: yeah, thrillseekers still classy.

Just checked out Basil O'Glue's release "Occult", solid stuff. Gonna check out some more bits.

Further suggestions welcome.

no-one has filled the void in my opinion. if there is a 'scene', i am completely blind to it. best you're going to get is bonzai and j00f, i don't really know who they cater to though. on top of that, i find the new stuff is just horribly over-produced and unnatural sounding.

Yeah. Check his remix of 'Relaunch - Suspense'... it's great.

But I'm with rubez: there's a void. I like these basil o'glue releases but some are are just 'good' or 'ok', nothing really outstanding. Whatever, you can find brilliant trancey in others genres. A guy posted 'Dax J - Dreamscape' last year, that still one of the best things that I've heard in ages (and I consider trance). Also platipus still here, some releases are dope (like 'Union Jack - Papillon'), but some don't.

Seems to me the trance scene as it was has gone into remission, becoming an insular little community that proudly caters to its core audience of true believers (that whole '140bpm or bust' movement) while ignoring what the rest of clubland is up to. So, it's become another psy trance scene. ;)

It was inevitable though. It's peak years are a good decade long past, and many of the folks who followed it have moved on as other life priorities took hold. Meanwhile, a whole new demographic emerged underneath them, finding music they identify with rather than latch onto what the old guard enjoyed. No surprise the top career jocks would start catering to them though, since that's where the new money lies.
