How long did it take you to get over lead synth anthems?

I'll admit, I was stuck on lead synth anthems (dutch trance) for the longest time of my exposure to EDM. I don't know what it was. I was really into those "OMG EPIC" lead synth anthems when I first got into trance. I mean, that's how most of us got into trance of electronic music, didnt we? The gateway era.

As years went by, I think at least 5 or 6 years I was only listening to synths. The same feeling of extreme joy and happiness I used to get from anthems or lead synths has died away. I find them quite predictable and cheesy now, not all, but most. It just seems so standard and so overused. Ever since messing around with acid I felt like the messages and languages that is spoken to my mind through acid sounds, is far more intriguing and at the same time very fascinating.

Right now, the currently newer EDM audience is heavily in love with leading synths, big room anthems, and epic drops. All coming from that formula of dutch anthem trance that a lot of us grew sort of tired of.

I know at least some of you guys faced this. I gotta say though, I was stuck on being biased on only synths for the longest time. I'm glad it is over, and I can finally see how overrated it is.

What about you?

I hate it when it's called "dutch trance".
There always were synth sounds which were popular during a certain period of time, some a bit longer then others.
I like it when some acid is used, but also for that it just shouldn't be too much for too long.
The current popular stuff lacks flow IMO, I can't get used to it.

I've filtered out 95% of uplifting trance tracks from my life but there will always be a select few that I'll like such as Slyder - Score and Peewee Ferris - Genesis.

There is no need to "get over" anything. I still go back to the old classics from time to time.

Impossible. Once you stop being obsessed with a genre you have to hate everything about it and swear off listening to it forever. You also have to tell anyone who will listen how much it sucks and how superior and evolved your new tastes are.

Come on, everyone knows that.

I think years 2005 or 2007 was the years when everybody was ashamed to be associated with liking trance. No?
