This thread has undoubtedly been done before, but the hell with that. I've decided it's high time I delve into the world of post-rock, but there's a hell of a lot out there to explore, so any recommendations would be much appreciated. Anything cinematic, atmospheric, predominantly instrumental would be preferred. Albums rather than individual tracks or Youtube embeds, please.

Post rock is a pretty restricted genre I would say and alot of the bands sounds very identical.I get tired of the genre pretty fast and move on onto other things. You probably have searched around and listened to some bands already so you may have noticed already that its very centered around the guitar.
If i have to say one album just on top of my head without thinking about it too much and search around.
Lights Out Asia - Eyes Like Brontide
Innocence Lost
Don't really know if this is post rock but it has amazing guitar leads.
I made the video on the first one.
This is quite the thing when it comes to electric guitar effects.

Actually, I've found that post-rock is far less centred on the guitar than most styles of rock music. Not that I've got a problem with hearing more ultra-pretty post-rock guitar spangles.

Im currently exploring this type of music as well and so far Isis, Pelican, Red Sparowes and Russian Circles are the best ones i've heard.
I would suggest to browse around on Bandcamp, you can find tons of similar stuff there.

Paradox Lost
port-royal has been one of my favorite and most consistent post-rock bands for years.
Here's a massive compilation of much of their work released on N5MD a few years ago that should conveniently bring you up to speed.
I'll slide in a lone YouTube link just as a representative example to help decide if it's worth your time.
Explosions In the Sky and Sigur Ros obviously need to be mentioned, though I'm sure you've already come across them long before making the effort to look into post-rock.

I do really like the Mercury Program though
Mogwai
Toe
Maserati
might not technically count as post-rock but Tera Melos kicks ass
people seem to like And So I Watch You From Afar but I cant get past the stupid trendy name
should have been And So I Order PBR
craiggarner
Not sure if this is exactly the post-rock you're after but Talk Talk are often credited with being precursors to the genre.
If you haven't heard their album 'Spirit Of Eden' before then strap yourself in!
I'd really encourage people not to skim-listen this song as the way it unfurls is just sublime.
