whoa whoa...you download at 2MB?? how the hell did you manage 2MB/s?? that's impossible...the bandwidth for cable by itself is 1MB....plus the packet loss from your cable box to the server then rebounding it to the page or whatever you're loading makes it even slower......
if you do get that kind of speed...i doubt it's cable...sign me up for that ONE! :D :p |

it is cabel...when i first got it the speed that they said it would run would be 500k but i would get up to 580 - 600k at the rate when i download it once in a while..... but now they have broadend the bandwidth for Cabel here in Cox..Las Vegas... and its up to 1.8meg...advirtised but i run sometimes at 2meg......well cabel can go that fast i guess just depends where your source is i guess
the highest rate i ever got when i downloaded was 211k/s...but usually downloads at average at 160k.s so if the rate speed is accurate then it should be right.... i download a song usually in 30sec if im at full speed mayb faster |

| Part of the confusion of link speed lies in the fact that network speeds are measured in bits while file sizes are measured in bytes. Faster (not fastest mind you) cable modems in the US are usually about 1.5mbits per second, which divided by 8 means about 190kbytes per second when downloading. Slower cable modems generally run at 256kbits or 512kbits (32kbytes and 64kbytes for downloading respectively). Cable networks, that is, the whole node that one connects to, can roughly handle about 30mbits per second of transfer. So on a node that has a user cap of 1.5mbits, it only takes 20 people running full bandwidth to suck up the entire node's bandwidth. I have heard of nodes where the cable company hasn't actually installed caps yet, and those would effectively be 30mbits per second links if you were the only one on it. Just for reference, T1s run at about 1.5mbits per scond, which is comparable to cable. The advantage of a T1, however, is your bandwidth is your own, you can upload at 750kbits and download at 750kbits if that's how you want to utilize it. Most cable companies reserve only about 300kbits per scond for upstream for each user. T3s run anywhere from about 4mbits to 30mbits per scond, and once again, it's all your bandwidth, so do what you please with it. I'm a bit scared of Sweden's networking, if in fact, everyone has their own T3, since in the US that'd be about $5,000 to own. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that you can buy into a T3 in Sweden, which means that each user doesn't have a T3, but rather, lots of users share a single T3. Of course, I could be wrong, and Sweden could be by far the best networked country in the world. |

I donīt know all the details about the T3 I have, it works very good though. Not all people have T3 and not all will get it, many people get ADSL and cable. In my community you can choose between ADSL or T3 each for the same price per month (20$). What did I choose? well the fastest one of course. The only time it is slow is when I'm downloading from a slow user at Napster and when I'm connected to a server with many users hocked up to it. Sometimes it goes as fast as 1100k/s at Napster but then itīs probably someone with T3 in the Stockholms area.
anyway I love it and I use it

| I'm on adsl myself, $40 CDN for it per month and it goes like stink here since not too many people are subscribed to it or have access to it (you have to be within 1.5km of the actually office that supplies the main pipe) I think we're on a 1.5MB line or something close to that, downloads usually top around 200k/sec or even faster on good nights/days. Anyways, that's the info from me! :D have an awesome week people! |

why is it so much cheeper there then here anyway??? ...Usually in the US its the cheepest..cuz there are more companies to challenge prices and speeds...like in where im also from... Cabel& DSL,T lines ..are much more expensive then in the states...but what do i know lol.... T3 conntection for only 20$ a month ....i thought that was impossible when i first heard it but hey i never been to sweden or anything so i cant say much....but 1100k/s your very lucky ...
I remember those days where i had a 14.4 6 years ago and it was top of the line...then came 28.8 Us Sportster modem...which everyone wanted..then the 33.3 then where majority has 56k........ Just imagine 10 years from now...a T3 will be accient!! |
