Has anyone moved beyond MP3.com?
Do you have any respect for that institution?

No offense to any MP3.com artists.

But most amateurs and beginners whose work gets released commercially have at no point posted on MP3.com, which has become associated in many people's minds with 'being stuck in a rut' of amateurishness.

I don't see the link between being on mp3.com and not being signed. It's not that you have a less chance of being signed if you are an artist on mp3.com.

ppk, darude, airbase are at least 3 artists on mp3.com that has got signed.

I'm more or less neutral to mp3.com. It's an okay place to attract some listeners. What I don't like with mp3.com is all the ads, especially those really annoying flash ads.

sorry, but i can't afford webspace to host my own webpage
i guess that gives me less of a chance of being signed

i don't give a about the promotional aspect or anything like that
i just want somewhere to host my music and have it easily accessable by others..
i don't know of anywhere else that gives me the chance to host my songs and put up a webpage

a friend of mine is actually in contract talks with 3 labels and already has stuff released on 2, and he posts his stuff on mp3.com

i dont see a problem with using what is accessable, even if it seems "amaturish"

if it offends you that much, offer up some server space for us then

I totally agree with you. I've got one remixing offer from an american label from just being on mp3 and some of my tracks is on something called TXT ME tv. By the way, are there anyone else on these boards who also are on TXT ME tv?

Mp3.com are bastards who rip you off in every way they can.

They support open bribing to get better chart results and people are stupid enough to believe that there would be someone else than the other artists to listen to the tunes.

but as i said in my original post...
i don't care about the whole promotion thing
even if it's only other artists listening to my stuff...

what i care about is pointing someone i know in the direction on my mp3.com site and having them take a listen

sure it would be a bonus for some random person to listen and sign it, but that's not why i signed up

mp3.com isn't all that bad. you just have to do some digging to encounter good trance. and trust me, there is some good trance on mp3.com! just ignore the charts and...

check out my radio station HERE

i just see mp3.com as a way to get my tracks online, plus to get some albums sold... i'm using whatever options they give me, and that i like to use, nothing more ;)

alot of mp3.com artists have been spotted by labels (they are searching as well! - incl myself), so i don't think signing up at mp3.com gives you these limitations.
same as with every other kind of site like that (iuma.com, ampcast.com)... what do you think of them?

greetz,
Wim/LW
