NO, you do NOT need to buy an iLok. The new system allows you to use either the PACE desktop authorization (free and no dongle needed), or a dongle. It's been that way for their last few plugins and will be the same for all their native plugins once v5 is released. |
Thanks Cryo :D |

Oh wow, at last. I had no idea. I suppose the mere mention of Pace/Ilok would make me run so I didn't get that memo lol.
Do you need an active internet connection for the Pace deskptop auth? |

I prefer the dongles, so I'm not sure. I know that you do need to have an iLok account and the license manager installed, but I'm not sure if calls home or just reads it locally once it's installed. I think it's the latter, where it basically just treats your computer as the dongle, but not positive. |

Just got it running on my Macbook and PC with no iLok for anyone else who is interested.
You do need to install the iLok license manager though.
Big thank you to Dave for the heads up  |

Cheers Dave. I need to look in to this further.
My main beef was how pace dealt with lost licenses. For instance, one of the dongles at work once went missing. We even paid the monthly insurance but certain software devs like Waves (at least they used to) wouldn't honor a replacement license for a stolen Ilok.
On a $6,000 bundle that is not ing cool.
Even if the dongle malfunctioned, you would have to send it back to them until they figured it all out which one time took 3 weeks.
We had to really push to get the replacement licenses and it was only because my boss was well known and spent a fortune with them over the years that they caved in. you or I? No chance.
Horrific business model. |

Sorry Dave I'm not getting this, you say I don't need an iLok (great) but here you mention I need something called an iLok account?
I have on my PC a licensing manager software thing, is this ok or do I need to get some sort of iLOK account and if so from where does one get one?
On my PC is a dongle that came with the system, never sure what the hell it does. |

Yeah, when I say that you don't need an iLok, I meant that you don't have to use an iLok dongle/USB key. The new SoundToys plugins (including the upcoming v5) give you the option of authorizing the licenses on an iLok dongle or with the iLok desktop account manager (no dongle required). The latter option just ties the authorization to your PC, rather than to the iLok dongle. Either way, you have to have an account with iLok. If you already have the iLok account manager software on your PC, then you should be good to go. Register the plugin using one of the freebie codes - it will ask for your iLok account information (name/password). Then, go to your iLok account manager and the license will be there. All you have to do at that point is select the desktop authorization, rather than the iLok USB key/dongle option. I imagine that it will only give you the desktop authorization option if you don't have a dongle, but I'm not sure. |

| aren't they at like south by south west ? I remember ordering their bundle and had to wait till the weekend was over. Basically they don't automate things. |

| They were at SXSW last week and they had some major server issues while they were there. But, apparently, that was resolved late last week and people on other forums have been getting their licenses/downloads. |
