| I'm not sure how I would rate this album after one listen. It dosen't sound bad by any means, it just dosen't sound as good as Steffi's album did when I first heard it. I still consider it as one of the best albums from last year. Folk will probably grow on me eventually. I guess I was expecting a bit more diversity. |

I wouldnt expect much from anyone on Ostgut releasing an album.
You'll get one or 2 tracks that are forgotten in a couple years, and the rest are fodder. |

Oh come on, a lot of them have held up fairly well.
Granted, I don't know why they seem to be so committed to having every damn artist on the roster release an album. |

i dig it. although id be playing it more so with other melodic songs over techno. but might use some for warming up.
to be fair with this day and age most songs are forgotten in a couple years as so much music is being released so often. i fall in that trap as well. i can't really fully enjoy something because the very next week more releases are being dropped.
listening to it again now I'm closing my eyes and smiling - def playing this outside when summer rolls around |

| What Sound? For a house/techno label, Ostgut is pretty damn diverse. I find it hard to see how you can group a label that has done everything from 120 bpm deep house to 135 bpm techno to IDM/ambient style tracks under one 'sound'. |

Mark blatantly hasn't even listened to the samples. This is some lush melodic with some sharp-edged techno percussion underneath. Really liking it. I'm not sure how it qualifies as "shallow" - there's a lot more going on in these tracks than your average "four loops and we're done" Berliner techno.
Have you seen him DJ, Woony? He's playing in Manchester in a couple of weeks touring this album. I'm very tempted to go along, based on this. |

Maybe shallow is the wrong word, but I listened to the clips a few times and I still can't recall any of the tracks. They're nice and all but not very hook-y, at least a loopy track will stick in your head.
Yeah, i've seen him maybe four or five times. He's a good, solid DJ but probably not the kind of guy that will blow you away. I was at the release party for this actually. I only caught a bit of his set but he was playing quite banging for a house set, in the high 120s (which seems to be general trend at Panorama recently), some jacking house, plenty detroit-ish techno/house, some Kompakt-like stuff and some cornball moments (Pet Shop Boys..). I wasn't feeling it too much but if you can get behind that by all means go.
What kind of lineup is he playing on? Probably depends on that aswell, since he's quite a diverse DJ. I've seen him play downstairs once or twice and it was quite nice, he's got a different approach to most 'full-time' techno DJs. |

He's headlining. Not been to the venue before but I'm guessing it'll be a pretty small, intimate kinda party, which is what I prefer. It's part of the album tour so I'd guess he'll play pretty similarly to what you've described at the launch party.

Yeah, in that case it'll probably be more house-y.
From looking at some recent recorded sets and what he's charting, it seems like Kirk Degiorgio's sets are quite in line with the modern bleepy techno sound, rather than the sound of his label and productions. I've never seen him though, I really want to, but always manage to miss him when he's playing here. |

Yeah, a quick listen through his latest RA chart doesn't leave me feeling very enthusiastic. Robert Hood is playing the same night, that might be a better choice.
Regarding you not being able to remember any of the tracks, I felt that way about Steffi's album. I know it's nice and I enjoy listening to it, but I've played it a few times now and I still can't remember any of the tracks. |
