Yep he's 51 or something like that.
Anyway he has no respect toward other DJs... I've seen his interview on TV. He irritates me.

yea..junior vasquez has no respect for the DJs out there, he think he owns Twilo
In an Danny Tenaglia Interview...
What do you think of Junior Vasquez?
"I think he's overrated Madonna wannabe, commercial music-playing, non underground DJ."
Will you ever make up with him after he took Twilo off you again?
' [pause] I just don't think he can be a true friend to a person. Afterall these years, I just don't think I'm better off not being on a personal level with him. In his warped, demented mind he feels that room [at Twilo] is his. Well, excuuuuuse me."
How good are New Yorkclubs at the moment?
"Right now there's a pretty nice variety. I'm playing to 3-4,000 people. Junior's playing to 1,500. There's the Sound Factory, Body And Soul... there should be somewhere to go where you can hear Tony Humphries, Louie Vega, people like that. I miss that."
Do you prefer playing gay clubs or straight clubs? Why?
"My preference is to play the mixed clubs. When gay and straight people come together you can find they're there for the music, not just for the sex."
Have you ever had a heterosexual experience?
"Of course! Do you want details?"
What's the most outrageous thing you've ever seen in a club?
"Oh boy. besides sex? Back in the days of Studio 54 there was a woman called Disco Sally, who was in her '80's. She used to get on the dancefloor, drink, get high - that was outrageous."
How long have you been DJing for? Will you ever stop?
"A solid 22 years. I'll probably not stop, at least not while I'm content with the music and people are content with me."
You once admitted that you made records that "drove people's drugs". Do you take drugs? Have you ever taken drug in the past? Have you ever DJed on drugs?
" I do not take drugs. I've experimented with many things, but never with stuff like K, I've done E three times in my life, the last four years ago. I used to smoke marihuan, but gave that up 10 years ago. I used to DJ on it, but it didn't agree with me. And I've never been a drinker."
Do you get a lot of guys coming on to you because you're a DJ?
"I stay away from all that. I'm very private person. I get into my both and that's it."
Have you ever had sex while you've been DJing?
"Yes."
Would you ever live anywhere else than New York City? Why?
"I did live in Miami and think of that as my second home. I could live there again... but New York. There's so much to love and so much to hate. You've got to find what works for you."
Tell me three things that make for a successful DJ?
"Perseverance, talent, and fate."
What do you do to relax?
"Lately it's been America Online [an internet provider}. Websites and e-mail. I've been trying to get a bit more in touch with computer technology.
Have you ever regretted anything?
"I can't say I have. I think I pretty much take pride in the choices I've made."
Have you ever heard Sasha and Digweed at Twilo?
"A few times. They create a great energetic trance vibe that's an alternative to the music people like me and Little Louie Vega play. They should kick Junior out on a Saturday! They own Fridays at the moment in New York."
How cool do you think you are?
"[thinks hard] I've never thought of myself as cool. Knowledged and with a lot of common sense, sure."
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?
"The Wu Tang Clan [starts laughing]... I see them as gangsta rappers. They're not my vibe and I don't think I'm theirs. They're not about what I'm about."
Are you a nice guy?
"Very nice. I always try and talk to people, and not just about what I'm doing.
Who's your ideal date and where would you take them?
"Janet and Michael Jackson. I'd like to take them to some of my favorite hangouts."
No-one romantic?
"[coyly] I'm a very private person."
Do you workout?
"No but I do plan to make a resolution to start in the New Year because I'm a little bit overweight [giggles]. I've been carrying the same child for the last three years and it doesn't want out.
Do you speak Italian?
"That's my one regret. I do regret not speaking a second language... I've been to Italy and got told off for not speaking the language. I just had to say I was born in Brooklyn, not Italy."
What's you favorite food?
"Italian. I like most pasta dishes [rattles on for several hours about pasta]. I have a unique desire for pasta like rigatoni and broccolirable and garlic. It's like across between broccoli and spinach with bitterness to it."
What's the secret of happiness?
"Being a good person at heart. Believing if you're good then good things will happen to you. Knowing right from wrong.
Have you told the truth?
"I believe so." |
