Pandora, Google & Amazon join forces to REDUCE streaming royalties (WTF)

I'm not quite sure what i'm reading here but it seems like Pandora have lobbied google and amazon to put their combined weight behind a movement to LOWER how much they have to pay per stream.

Apparently, SoundExchange want to double the royalty payout per stream to a staggering...wait for it... $0.0025, because apparently $0.00125 is just too much. Yes, one tenth of a cent is just unbearable so these giant tech companies are going to gang bang us into accepting even lower payouts.

Per the article, there are several major decisions that will be handed down this year which will decide how much and if Artists get paid, and hence why these three 9along with others like Iheartradio etc) are desperate to lobby for their profits.

The Fair Play, Fair Play movement is their main adversary, trying to make it so that artists get paid a performance royalty for streams (right now we don't) - only the publisher and writer get paid.

This whole thing could actually decide if streaming is even a viable business model. If a decision is made that they need to pay more, it really could kill of the likes of spotify (and Tidal lol) who can't even make a profit given the paltry payouts they have to make now.

If you give a about your royalites and ever having a chance of getting paid, read the full article here:
