You know - the guy who is aiming to go to mars, send us all into space, have fully automated electric cars that are charged from our home solar off-grid power supply - and is making it happen.

He's not trying to enslave us; He's an alien from the future trapped on Earth and he's trying to get us to build the technology that he needs to get home. He's just slowly introducing us to technologies that already existed on his home planet.
he needed money so he made paypal. Once he had money, he needed us make more energy technology so he would have a power source for his ship, so he founded Solar City. He then had us develop better electrical engines (under the premise of selling us sexy cars), but his real motive was to make a need for better fuel sources so he founded Tesla, and then powerwall.
once he has all that in place, hyperloop will be build (which is nothing more than a launch tube for his ship) and he's off. At least we'll be left with electronic payment systems, decent solar power, nice cars, good batteries, and a really fast public transport system.
