is it possible to use effects from within a DAW on a hardware synth?
i have not yet synced any hardware to a DAW yet, so i don't know what i am doing there, i am intimidated by this a bit.
i am getting a waldorf pulse 2, and would LOVE a strymon bigsky to go with it, looks and sounds amazing!!
it's ing dear. in the meantime so, i wonder if a quick and easy software option is available?
cheers.
anyone not familiar with the bigsky should check this out, such lushness...

yeah of course, i do it all the time

Oh I KNEW I recognised your name from the GS post! :p
So yeah, you'll need to get the audio signal into the DAW with an interface and watch the latency on time based plugins (delays etc) but it'll work fine.
Valhalla Shimmer is a great reverb in the style of the Strymon/Eventide units and is only 50 bucks.
i don't have an audio interface, would a dj mixer do in the meantime?

Shimmer is the bomb

If the DJ mixer has audio inputs and an ASIO driver that your DAW recognises then sure.

it's an xone92... i have it going into the line-in on my PC.
i am using my TR-8 as my soundcard.
i used ASIO4ALL for maschine, it worked well, but when i choose it in my DAW there is no sound so i choose TR-8 as my soundcard and i have no latency on my midi keyboard with that... standard drivers i do.
hate all this setting up :toothless

The Tr-8 has inputs and can used as an interface but the maschine is a usb like midi controller i think.

Yeah, Maschine isn't an audio interface, just a dedicated MIDI controller.

your "line-in" - thats probably the onboard (mobo) soundcard...or interface if you want to call it that
but if you are using the TR-8 as a soundcard (audio interface) then you should be to do whatever using it

i would use a separate computer and use midi sync routing the audio back as a return if you are doing live work.
You should generlaly have a backup laptop anyways so this is one more reason to have a backup clone laptop incase titty sweat s up. hopefully female.

i usually like to use NI Replika as a delay (free download) and i use Valhalla Room as a reverb for the Pulse 2, but it just comes down to personal preference. you don't have to use 3rd party effects though, your DAW's built-in effects should work fine, but Valhalla's reverbs are amazing IMO.
what DAW are you using?
the Waldorf Pulse 2 has a USB port which can be used for MIDI in/out instead of the individual MIDI IN/OUT ports. so for data communication between your computer and the Pulse 2 you can just use that USB port, then for running the audio to your computer you can probably use the xone92. someone correct me if i'm wrong but if you're using the xone92 and going through the line-in on your computer then it'll only be in mono and you might have some ground noise too. i used to run my Roland JP8000 through my Gemini CS-02, obviously that mixer isn't anywhere near as nice as yours but i could only record in mono and also had ground noise when using my computer's line-in.
i have a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 that i use to run my Pulse 2 and JP8000 through. i just switch the MIDI and audio cables from the Pulse 2 to the JP8000 and vice versa. the 2 audio inputs on the front are a combo XLR and 1/4" tht have preamps. the preamps are nice but aren't necessary because there are two additional 1/4" inputs on the back which are quieter than the two 1/4" preamped inputs on the front, so with the inputs on the back i just turn the volume up (make sure not to turn up any interface too much, you don't want clipping) and haven't noticed any ground noise. it also has a MIDI IN and MIDI OUT port which you can use but you don't need because you can use the USB cable on the Pulse 2. i use an ASIO4ALL driver for the Focusrite.
personally i don't use the Pulse 2's USB port, i run the old school MIDI IN/OUT from the Pulse 2 -to- the Focusrite's MIDI IN/OUT interfaces, i also run the 1/4" audio output left/right channels from the Pulse 2 -to- the Focusrite's front 1/4" audio inputs. so takes care of transferring everything from the Pulse 2 to the audio interface - the 2 MIDI cables (one for IN, one for OUT) take care of the data communication and the 2 audio cables (one for LEFT, one for RIGHT) take care of the audio. now you just connect the Focusrite to the computer via USB and you're good to go with the physical stuff. then you just need to install the ASIO driver and set it up in your DAW.... the reason i use the old MIDI cables instead of the Pulse 2's USB port is because then i only have to plug in 1 usb cable into my computer. otherwise you'd have to plug in 2 USB cables - 1 USB cable from the Pulse 2 for MIDI data and 1 USB cable from the Focusrite for the audio. the Focusrite transfers MIDI data and audio over its USB cable.
