So it seems after all the hype of improvements, and stories about Pioneer buying the technics patents, it looks like Pioneer went cheap and used ABS plastic as the housing, added rubber band aids to resonant issues, made the pitch fader difficult to replace, but worst of all, despite the extra weight in the base, the PLX-1000 suffer from serious feedback issues.
Good vid and well worth the watch.

been wondering about this thing, guess i keep my 1210 anyway but i dont dare use em as they are mint and could be worth my pension in a few years :eyes:
Watch the whole thing - I don't really get the driving bit at the beginning but the guy actually explains really well. You can tell he has either made devices or at least been a repair technician for pro audio kit, especially when he goes in to how the PCB builds reminds him of early, cheaper pio kit. The feedback thing at the end of the vid is really telling though.

There is a plus side and a down side to these pioneer turntables, the down side is that at the moment, they are not as good as the technics 1200 and 1210s of old, Pioneer still have a ways to come before they can say these decks are the equal of Technics.
The plus side is, at least they are making vinyl decks again, they actually saw the resurgence of vinyl and are positive about it, with any luck there will be a Mk2 version of the PLX 1000 (just like the cdj 1000 saw the mk2 and mk3, like the cdj 2000 saw the nexus etc) which will address the issues with them.
The other good news is that the PLX 1000 is also coming down in price, at least here in the UK they are, they have dropped from £600 each to £530 each in most of the major stores.
I still have a pair of 1210 Mk3Ds and I also have a pair of Stanton STR8-100s which I am certainly keeping hold of, but if there is a mk2 of the PLX 1000 and it addresses the known issues with them, then I could be tempted to add them to my set up and preserve my 1210s.
I often scan ebay for 1210s, every now and then a boxed brand new one turns up for sale and the money I was going to spend on an S8 will be heading the 1210s way lol

yeah, as much as I think most of pioneers products are turd (with exception to the CDJ's) I'm thankful that they made a vinyl deck (although as I said in the PLX announcement thread, it rather ironic that the brand that did everything they could to kill off vinyl, now now ed their own market so badly that they want to go back it lol).
There may well be a mk2 and I hope they address the issues but again, it's a thing I hate about Pioneer;
They have the rush-to-market business model which consists of putting out a flawed beta product with a ton of hype about it being the best thing ever, then a year later bringing out the model that they really should have made in the first place, and then stating, "forget that one, THIS is the best thing ever".
I'm all for development or perfection of design but their business model isn;t about that - it's about selling multiple generations of the same thing to the same people, over and over again, and doing so with a ton of hype.
They know when they build something what corners they're cutting, they know what has come before and know exactly what they *should* put out, yet they don't.
As you can see online and even from this video, they are known for putting out e for the first few incantations of a given model and frankly consumers are sick of this (which is why Pioneer are in trouble).
They should have used all the Technics patents and molds, made a real 1210 with a pioneer button, line out option and IEC socket. That would have been enough and they could have sold them for a $1000 each and people would have lapped them up.
instead, they made a cheap, worse than OEM knockoff that isn't as good as what came before it for 30+ years.
I'm so glad I bought m5g's. The only thing that would ever make me consider switching is if someone brings out a deck with built in, sensor based DVS. Which apparently is coming soon ;)

Apparently Pioneer did not buy the Technics patent, the patent actually expired.
It would have been the ideal if Pioneer had of made an exact copy of the Technics, that way we would have got the deck we wanted, just with a different name on it.
There are rumours though of Panasonic relaunching the Technics brand.
On a side note, I have just seen a brand new 1200 Mk5 for sale on our local gumtree, £2100... :nervous:

Interesting and it makes sense; patents are only either 17 or 20 years and maybe when technics ran in t trouble they realized their product could be copied without production.
I've heard that rumor too and I hope it happens but they're also trying to do this silly hifi music portal.

I know it's a lot of money but you'll quite literally never need another set of decks in your lifetime. I love my mk5g's. So tight.
