I'm always slighthy jealous of those of you in the US/Canada as Simon, and many other psybient artists, seems to spend most of his time touring there. But on the rare occasion they do appear over here we generally get the full live band rather than the Shpongletron, so swings and roundabouts... Have you experienced both? Are the Shpongletron DJ sets as enjoyable? |
Well, the first time I saw Shpongle was at Shambhala, mid-afternoon at the beach stage. I... don't remember too much of that, if I'm honest, though quite enjoyed his Hallucinogen set later in the festival.
The Shpongletron was cool to watch, though the location was at a stage theatre, so about all I could do was sit back in a comfy chair and take in the show. Bunch of folks were dancing in the aisle.
Third time was a harlequin themed night at a Vancouver club, where he played a similar set to the Shpongletron one, but was more uptempo. So, less of the psy-dub, and heavier emphasis on tribal world beat and the like. Not much psy trance at either - Posford probably saves it for the Hallucinogen shows. |

Speaking of Simon Posford. I would suggest you to check out his Younger Brother material, as well. The last days of gravity is their best album, in my opinon. |
Yep! Last Days of Gravity is a definite must-listen! I'd say it's the less cheesy psychedelic alternative to Shpongle. I certainly don't mean cheesy in a derogatory way however. |

| This is Mark Anthony we're talking about. He is a pioneer in the field of talking excitedly about played-to-death music. Rubez is his only rival. |

the guy is a hipster. he is pretending he has heard this before for one - then suggesting it's been played to death? - by whom?!
and to call 2013 old - further expanding his hipster credentials... hell, if it has been released it's already burned out, tired, old-hat. |

| I look forward to your Shpongle discovery thread in 2019, rubez. You did Goldie the other day, so you've got as far as 1995 at least. |

who cares how old something is, or when you discover it? heaven forbid an enthusiast would come on here to talk about music, and to share it with like-minded people
when it was released? who gives a ing ? it couldn't be LESS relevant. |

| Don't get your kilt in a twist lad, I'm sure you can take a bit of piss-taking on the chin without glassing someone. Nothing wrong with being a late starter, just don't be upset when people are surprised it took you so long. |
