The decline of Solar Stone

I dont think i've liked anything from Solar Stone since Andy Bury left the group (in 2006 i think). Seems like he was the more talented of the two? All i hear from Solar Stone nowadays sounds like cheap copies of their old sound, without depth.

Seven Cities, Solarcoaster, Release, Destination, The Calling and even 3rd Earth... good stuff.

Is it just me, or am i nostalgic?

The project started sucking when it went from Solarstone to Solar Stone. It started out as three guys (sometimes two) and now Richard just does it solo and has for several years.

The Bladerunner Theme mix he did is the only mildly interesting track he's done in some time for me. Destination is still a favorite of mine.

Yeah the only relationship the current state of the project has with the past is in name. The last album I heard- "Rain Stars Eternal" had a sprinkling of decent material, but made it fairly clear that they were headed in 'that' direction. The last thing I remember actually enjoying was "Destination vol. 1" way back in 2006, which had an exclusive album remix of Like a Waterfall that I'm still hoping to one day get hold of.

I guess you mean the opposite, when Solar Stone went to Solarstone?
The third guy was only a member for a brief time, as far as i know contributing to The Impressions EP / The Calling.

Rain Stars Eternal came out in 2008 and was produced solo by Rich Mowatt. Andy Bury had left by then.

That Blade Runner remix s me right off because it's obviously the end credits music rather than the Love Theme.
Subtle
Havent heard anything remotely interesting since that other guy left the group.

I still can enjoy many of his Pure Remixes like:

I've been calling them Solar Stone or Solarstone since 2003, mostly the first way. I didn't know it mattered that much.

Seriously :stongue:

I guess Love Theme just sounds more PLUR...

Thinking a bit more, I enjoyed the occasional trance release, but it was really their "afterhours" chillout remixes in the very early 2000's that were among the best of their catalog. A shame they didn't do more of them.

On the subject of their chillout side, their 'Chilled Out Euphoria' CD is one of the highlights of that entire series. They mention in the booklet that they spend around 5 months compiling it after being asked, and it really shows. A more eclectic tracklist than many of the other chillout-trance compilations of the time, and the mixing is pretty much seamless.
