Automation is very useful when maiking tunes. You can use it to control filters and volumes etc, so you can fade synths in or make effects |

automation = programming things you 'd normaly do with your hands
eg: filter cutoff, volume, but also changing from patch, track mutes, tempo changes... |

Yup, automation is an amazing tool in the mixing process. I use it for everything, from controlling FX to EQ to correcting volume, pan/placement...the list goes on (for both audio & MIDI). Logic Audio 5.x has some amazing new automation routines built in that I am just loving to DEATH. Nuendo is pretty cool too. |
