hello i am new to music production however i am incredibly talented and believe it is only a matter of days until i am signed to Ultra Music.
however i have run into a problem. i made my very own original song with files from a vengeance pack, they have provided all that i need to become the next steve aoki. i found drums (does a song need hats too?) and a very anthem lead with crazy sick transformer basses.
but then i tried to add a compress for the first time because i am told that more compress = better sounding music. i was not instructed on what i should set everything to so i just clicked away at the compressor until it looked like it was working (until the green bar turned red, i assumed it had hit maximum effect for maximum compress). i thought now my music is ready for the world but when i played the song, it sounded different and hurt my ears bad and all i hear is ringing now. luckily i have seen "it's all gone pete tong" so i'm not concerned with how this might affect my upcoming DJ career.
i was hoping one of you trance professionals like ATB or Palu Van Dyke could troubleshoot my setting, i have included a screenshot that might give some insight.

P.S. just kidding. and yeah, it took several instances of Ableton's Utility maxed out at +36db to achieve those results lol. hope you guys enjoyed the post. |

it has several but the first 2 minutes of the song are just vengeance builds, lots and lots of vengeance tension built up. then when the drop is expected, i juke out the audience by not doing a drop at that time. i tease them. then when the song is partially through its main phase, i do the drop *BAM* *WHAMMO* in the middle of a bar. take them completely off guard, it goes from the vengeance anthem lead to all of a sudden their faces are melted from the mad vengeance drops. i ambush the audience with the mad drop, i think it's a very creative new song structure that i came up with and once Ultra Music signs me and gives me residence in Ibiza then every other EDM producer in the world will be mimicking my techniques. it's called the "T-Rex Orgasm" method because of the intense sudden energy release. once i get rich then i will give back, i'll call CERN and tell them how i produce so much energy in my musics so they can use that to step up their game and make more energy too.
i know what you're thinking "but the ambush will become predictable." see, this is where my genius really kicks in. i never do the mad drop at the same place each time. one song might have it at 2:02 in the song, my next song might do it at 1:45 or the next song might have it at 0:04. they'll never be able to predict it. i have 14 unique explosion sounds layered at the same time and i added foley to make the drop even heavier, i started recording gun shot sounds from the movie "die hard" and will layer those all at the same time over the explosion sounds. i also recorded the sound of NOS being sprayed from The Fast & The Furious and use that as white noise because it will be more energetic. i know the idea of venturing outside of the pre-approved vengeance sounds is a gamble but i am a risk-taker and am confident in my abilities as a EDM produce.
i've also experimented with layering many different vengeance anthem leads at the same time to appeal to a wider audience. so if a small percentage of people don't like the anthem lead, they'll hear the other anthem leads layered on top of it and if i layer enough of them, then they'll have to like at least one of them. that way people of different tastes will all like my songs and i'll make so much money from people buying my music, seeing my shows, buying t-shirts with my face on it.
i've been practicing my DJ skills since yesterday so i'm pretty good. i think by tomorrow i'll be the best. i've been practicing pressing the play button lots. i can even do behind the back and press the play button, everytime my finger lands dead-on in the middle of the button. i think this was a talent i acquired at birth because i'm getting too good too fast. my mom tells me i'm so good that i can live in her basement for however long it takes to hit the big-time, which will probably be this weekend.

i knew you'd say that. but thank you anyway, see i want to stay humble even though i'll be the best thing to hit EDM since Martin Garrix, the king of trance.
questions for trance professionals:
i feel like if i learn too much about music theory, synthesizers, etc, then i'll lose the magic that my songs have. my songs would become too polished and uniform, i need to keep my raw sound because it comes from my raw talent. is this correct?
how many BJ's and how much money should i expect to receive every day after i hit it big? |

You're in luck, then! In today's modern society, you don't have to do anything at all - just hire someone else to do the work for you. All you have to do is to practice posing moodily for publicity photos. |

LOL! I had dental surgery this week and went a little heavy on the pain killers. I was feeling really good and I decided I'd try to start everyone's Friday off with a laugh. |
