Hello everyone,

I am doing a project for school, a research about the global idea of trance music in different countries.
Maybe someone can tell me how and when trance music came up in australia?
And how do you think about trance / hardtrance / techno / progressive / goa and so on.

Thnx,
greets from Lindsey

umm helen? any history to share? :D

All I can tell you is that trance has never been huge in Australia, and probably never will be - we are currently suffering through a deluge of rnb, drum'n'bass, funky house and breaks :(

Usually we get the big name trance internationals out here once a year (Armin a few weeks ago, Ferry Corsten next week, Paul van Dyk usually in May, Tiesto earlier in the year)... the place usually packs out but there aren't enough regular numbers to really completely guarantee success.

Sydney alone of the capital cities has a real trance night once a month (some of the big name clubs play some hard trance, but its usually old and buried amongst hard house & techno). There are quite a few goa and psy-trance parties around the place in Syd, but they are pretty underground and packed full of goths :/

Beyond that I can't really help you... :(
Sorry :)

TRANCE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s what I realized when I walked into a club called twilo in 1999 for my first time. Just happened to walk in on a Paul Van dyk night :) He knocked me on my Ass. I had never heard anything like this before. Taking two totally different songs, beat matching them perfectly..... taking you on this euphoric ride through the mind of the dj. He altered my perception on the whole scene forever. Trance is the kind of thing that when at its peak can make you forget what day it is ... or what problems are going on in your head ..... that makes your heart stop of that half a millisecond without you noticing. :gsmile:

There is a good documentary about DJing in general called "Hang the DJ" It's pretty old and mainly features Junior Vasquez  and Roger Sanchez but it has alot of history of DJing and the whole idea and world culture and stuff.
www.hangthedj.com

also features Mix Master Mike and Q-Bert and A-Track and the invisible scratch pickles! these guys are awsome to watch in action!

Youve also gotta see it just ot see Danny Tenaglia have a go at Junior Vasquez. Vasquez is a wanker :whip: Danny is mad!
