....as if we didn't all already know, but now, a prototyping engineer did a full strip down and found that Beats headphones contain zero technological advances over headphones that are sold for a fraction of the price.
Basically, you're buying $10 cans for $100.

Well, if you had read the article I posted you would have seen that was his comparison :p
Basically, he found that the expsive Beats held no technical advantage over the cheaper knock offs. In many cases (and I imagine these) the kick offs are often made in the same chinese factory - it happens with anything popular in china, it's only really been apple products that have managed to not have their molds/form factors completely ripped off. |

But the knock offs only had 1 driver while the OG's had 4
Same for some brackets being plastic over metal etc etc.
I don't think it's ODM's selling on the side, it's really copycats |

The point he was making is that there were a lot of "choices" made in the design so they could push the price up disproportionate to the actual quality or perceived benefit. In other words the material choices were so it would feel better not perform better, and therefore charge more. |

Exactly. It's important that they look like $300 headphones, not sound like $300 headphones. |

Not surprised they are a gimmick.
I wonder how much they have made off them. |

Ofcourse BEATS are a fashion statement, just like an iPhone.
But there is difference in quality and the housing might look the same, but there is a bit more to it: noise cancelling, lithion rechargeable, better materials.
Whether that translates into a premium user experience is an individual choice. |
