you typically hear it layered over kicks in old school hip-hop, electro (old school electro, not electro house), breaks, freestyle, etc.

it's probably most recognizable from Planet Rock, you can hear it starting at 0:16

in this Flying Steps track, you hear it at 0:28. then it sounds like it goes up +1 octave at 1:39

Jazze Pha also used it in Ciara's "1, 2 Step" at 0:26

fair light orch hit.

probably ripped form trevor horn somewhere. Ask Rann . GOogle fair light orchestra hit. And you will get it.

the other examples i have no idea what you are referring to. But that first example on top of the kick is the fair light . The other one sound like sine sweeps of some sort. I don't see any similarity . You sure those times are right.

It's the TR-808 tom sound.
tehlord
It is an orch hit

There's a load in the JV1080 and a few in the PRoteus VX plugin (which is free)
Mr.Mystery
It's the tom. The last track doesn't even have the orch hit.

Oh if that's all he want's it's just an envelope pitched sine, like making a kick but a couple of octaves higher.
Mel David
Yeah you have to use the pitch envelope so that the sample rapidly changes in pitch over time and sounds like a water drop.
