| Hi, I'v always wondered this. How much do you think Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk will make, when there at Roxy. I'v heard between 20,000 and 60,000 dollars. I'v even heard, Paul Van Dyk can make up to 80,000. Is this really true. How much do they make the night they DJ. Also, what do DJs not as popular as Tiesto and PVD make. Take like Scott Bond, Judge Jules or Cosmic Gate. |

i "HEARD" from some girl i know, who knows people at Roxy, that Tiesto got around $45,000 when he played last Friday....give or take.
not sure if thats true...but thats what i heard.
i think that Oakenfold makes the most though....but not sure how much.
and i have also heard that a club will sometimes pay for the DJ's hotel and maybe airfare....but again not positive. |

now don't forget it depends on the event ( that's easy to figure )
apart from that yes all expenses are covered most of the time
carl cox can take up to 200 000 a night
oakey in the same range
and the others is like 15 to 80 000 depending on who when where
now don't forget one detail, that money goes to vaster number of people, promo people, label , the bills etc .....
but well the djs still make their living good :p |

| jdat, there is no way in history Carl Cox can make up to 200,000 dollars. Unless Cox is gonna fill up some stadium. The most I'v heard anyone make, was 60,000 to 80,000. I heard Exit paid PVD that much, when he was there. |

| ya i think i have to agree with Twilo on that one....200,000 is a little far fetched...thats what like people N*SYNC pull in...well around tht figure...noway Carl Cox could. |

ok, here is the deal with Carl Cox.
Carl Cox gets between 10-20 thousand. the only time he receieved any more was when he played the millenium party in both Australia and Hawaii. He recieved about $500,000 for that because he technically played 2 NYE parties in 1 day. Oakenfold gets between 15-35 thousand for a usual 2-3 hour set. He also has other stipulations built in that force that # up but that other money isnt going to him. Tiesto is around 20g's, there is no way in hell he got 45gs to play roxy, Mike Bindra would never go for it. PVD maybe gets 25-35 from Bindra if not less because they are friends. The most I have ever offered to book anyone was 50g to Oaky for a 6 hour set which he turned down and Boy George turned down 55gs to due a set/concert at Hammerstein. It wasnt the money for him though, he just didnt want to fly, what a bitch ;-) Some of the best known djs also come the cheapest as well so dont ever think you need to pay a lot to get a lot. Dave Seaman you can get for $1,500 as well as Dave Ralph. Both bring an excellent promotional team that will brting in the people for you by supplying posters, ads, etc... So when you ask how much, just think in the back of your mind how much profit.
When you book guys like Oaky, PVD, and Tiesto, you ALWAYS lose money, no matter how many tickets you sell or how much they go for, you ALWAYS lose money. If they made money they would bring these guys every week and pack the place, but because they lose money every time they have to take a few weeks off to make that money back on other nights. Yes, thats right, Roxy turns a profit on other nights as hard as it is to believe, but the bar is $$$$$$$$ and they all know it. For Oaky and PVD since it is 18+ the bar makes jack other than water sales on other nights it can do anywhere from 10gs to 100gs depending on the crowd. I have seen a lounge that holds 150 people bring in 75-100g's a night no problem, thats where the money is made, not in the dj you bring. |

U krazy, dude!!!
PVD made $60,000 for 6 hour set @ SF....
loosing money? u must be on the wrong planet..
Tiesto tix were $50 @ the door and so will be PVD..
Lemme see.. average $45 a ticket x10,000 people throughout the night = 450,000 just in tickets alone.. take away $10,000 TOPS to pay off $6/hour cashiers and $15/hour bouncers..
Add another $500,000 in profits on alcohol and $5 water bottles...
CLub makes 1,000,000 a night, PVD gets $60,000 club gets $900,000 (think 1-10 people, owners, etc..)..
-$100,000 a night rent (TOPS)...
Now u tell me again, club is loosing money those nights.. Tell me that again..
If tiny GLOW with like 200 people dance floor and $15 entrance fee makes money, which I tried to understand how, then NYC clubs r definifely EXTREMELY profitable..
BTW, Jonathan Peters of SF makes $15,000 on a regular Saturdays and
1/2 the NIGHTLY cash register + $5,00 bonus on theme nights (think $300,000 a night)...

| Good DJs = more people in, more people in = more tix sales and higher ticket price and more sales of alcohol and H2O.. |

art, until you actually work at a club and have a clue about costs dont think that 10,000 people EVER pay to get into SF at $45 a piece. If you honestly think that 10,000 people went to see PVD @ SF then you must have done WAY too many drugs that night.
Lets use SF as an example, it holds maybe 3,500, for PVD it had about 2,700 because the top floor and the basement were empty. 2,700 X $40 = $108,000, thats ONLY if EVERYONE paid to get in. Now, lets be realistic here, maybe 50% paid if you eliminate sponsors, promoters, promoter's friends, and club employees. You are now down to $54,000. Now, lets add the costs of extra security and overtime since the club will be open for an extended period of time. Electricity for a club that size is about 250,000/month and its really only running fridays-sundays. So thats about $62,500/weekend or $20,833.33/night now that 54,000 is only $33,166.67, we STILL haven't paid PVD a dime yet. Now, lets pay our employees. Doormen, coatcheck, security, cleaning staff, lighting staff, electricians, soundmen, management, bar tenders, etc... Per night thats at least 20,000, now you are down to 13,166.67. Now lets buy our alcohol and cover costs for broken items, misc. items. That alone will be about 20,000 for all supplies plus breakables. You are now $-6833.33 and you STILL havent paid PVD. Now lets pay PVD $35,000 and advertising for PVD plus airfare for PVD,plus hotel suite for PVD, plus Limo for PVD, plus expenses PVD incurred, you are now at $50,000 for PVD. Your total profit for the night now is $-56,833.67. Now lets pay Luis Diaz and Edgar V for playing and their airfares and expenses as well, thats about $10,000 so you now sit at a grand total of $-66,833.67. Now, the only way SF makes that money up is at the bar. Water there costs $4 or $5 a bottle and everyone buys 1 and refills it. If that is the case then in order to break even SF must sell 16708.4175 bottles of water @ $4 or 13366.734 @ $5. You honestly think they sell 16,708 bottles of water in 1 night???? When you have spent 4 years working for the largest club in the US you know what things cost. I hope this helps explain what I'm talking about since you seem to be slightly jaded by assuming that the only thing the club is paying is the DJ. |

| I know Boy George got 25k for spinning Philly a few years ago. Was pretty funny to. It was during a horrable snow storm. 8 people showed up all night. |

| Actually it doesnt matter how many people the club holds; what matters is the number of people WHO GO THRU THE DOOR. Twilo used to hold 3000 people but on a few of the PvD nights about 8000 people went thru the door according to the owner. He spun from 2-9 or so but people came in at around 11pm but there is a constant flux of people going in and out on these huge nights; some people are coming at 1; others at 3 or at 6 in the am, while people are leaving as well so YES u can have many more people coming thru the door than the capacity of the venue. |
