"CTO Eric Wahlforss has confirmed the site will transition to a tiered subscription service later this year. In the eyes of record companies like Sony, Universal, and Warner, this move is long overdue. For the 175 million unique listeners who visit the network every month, the change may be disheartening."

"Legal threats against SoundCloud from major content owners are now intensifying, according to sources, with filings likely to happen within a few months if negotiations don’t progress. Earlier, Digital Music News pointed to looming legal threats from major labels Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, based on massive and unresolved levels of infringing content on the site.
Now, with negotiations spinning in circles, the clock is ticking as a stalemate approaches. “[The lawsuits will] be filed before Christmas, definitely,” a source closely tied into the situation told Digital Music News."

| I knew there was a trouble as soon as one of my mixes was flagged for copyright back in the day. |

The number of times i've had mixes denied for bs reasons is .. just astounding ..
claiming that the samples are by someone else yet the tracks are from genuine artist tracks etc
christ i even used tracks which were accepted when i first signed up now are denied .. |

Sucks but this was inevitable. They have to find some way to cover the cost of hosting all that audio.
Similar to what happened to YouTube. Start out with a bunch of totally independent user-generated content, followed by a lot of pure piracy, then our corporate masters all take notice and jump in with their ad-backed stuff. |

I had a subscription a while back, and it was well worth it. I think any active musician will consider it a worthwhile purchase, but for everyone else this is very poor news. In a way, there may be some "quality control" in effect from the change; but in the same regard the site could also just become a haven for crap artists that have some extra cash in their pocket.
DJs may as well just piss off elsewhere...I can really see a new site similar to Soundcloud coming out in reaction to the site's mandatory sub plan to eat up SC's disheartened users. I ultimately don't see Soundcloud benefiting from this. |

I heard he's a Dj! Whats that like? Anyone heard him?
If I had a list of the most interesting people becoming dj's it would be:
1. Paris Hilton (I actually hope she sings on a set, or does she already? Hmm....)
2. Owner of Soundcloud (I'm starting to think that he checks out everyones site and listens to their music.....hahahahah)
3. Mc Caulycalkin guy (Did I spell it right? 'Home Alone' Movie)
4. Boy George (Whoooa! How did that happen!)
5. Zak Effron (I think he's Middle-Eastern Asian....looks & behaves like it. If you guys arent careful those guys disappear in Europe.Regardless if they are 2 seperate nationalities they're seriously Chinese Asian, if that makes sense... they actually think like that, repeating asian twice. Spotting these guys is a natural talent.) |

| Youtube gives me unlimited uploads and time per upload, only issue is keeping freeshare website links updated where as soundcloud you dont have to worry about that. Having said that I dont really care too much for soundcloud, has been like 3 years since I've used it for myself. Still, I'd be sad to see it go. |

I read over the last months they took out a 70 million loan...yes...a loan.
Great platform but as I said two years ago above, I'm not surprised this is happened. |
