vocoder as instrument

obviously it's not just your voice you can input into the mic to get an effect.

does anyone use a mic and vocoder in an alternative way?

depending on what vocoder effect you are using, with filtering and tweaking, i assume you could get some weird and wonderful sounds to use in a track.

could be unorthodox like shaking a box of cornflakes into the mic, sharpening a pencil, playing a recording into it. etc.

Your school is old, sir. I approve :)

Such a great track. I can't be sure, but I think it was the first house track I was ever introduced to. An older friend had to do a animation project and I think this was the track it was set to. I was about 12 and asked what music is this?

He said "It's called house music".

The rest is history :D

The chords have been vocoded with a drum loop as the modulator.

I never get bored of it, and it's a perfect example of non-vocal use of a vocoder.
