The Beatnuts are a New York based hip hop group and production duo from Queens. Its current members are Junkyard JuJu, a Dominican American from Corona, and Psycho Les, a Colombian American from Jackson Heights. The Beatnuts are the only Latino members of the Native Tongues collective, which consists of some of the finest acts in all of hip hop, including: A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep, Brand Nubian, The Roots, Leaders of the New School, Mos Def, Common, and The Pharcyde. Although only peripheral members, they are routinely acknowledged by Q-Tip and are known across the world as hip hop pioneers, underground rap heroes and living legends. #realhiphop
Louwop, Ché Uno & Vago are “Los Poetas”. Hailing out of Toronto & Vancouver by way of Chile, El Salvador & Argentina, these three artists came together to bring music fans a Latino experience immersed in hip hop culture. Through their music they speak about the struggles and injustices that exist in their homeland and their duty to preserve their Latin roots through beats and rhymes. With the use of “Spanglish” the distinguished trio are able to fluently incorporate both English and Spanish in their music like no other, allowing them to bridge the gap between the America’s and beyond. Skilled in the trade of that Ol’ Boom Bap, Los Poetas are true masters of this often misconceived and ambiguous art form. #therealness
