Last.fm's New Layout

They've removed many of the MySpace-y features, which makes sense in this era of touch-screen apps. They've also made it incredibly easy to stalk other user's listening habits and history.

Hey, Lira! You sure were banging that Black Zodiac track from Resonant Evil on May 31, 2010, eh?:p

Thanks for reminding me about last.fm! I used their site a ton years ago but then stopped because the app would crash and/or they disappeared for a bit?

I can't remember which now it's been so long...

It annoys me that they've subbed out the longer lists in favour of larger images. It makes it much harder to get a clear "picture" of someone's tastes just from glancing at one screen, ironically enough. You now have to dip into an array of compartmentalised menus to get any real detail.

It's a step in the right direction. Like the look too, very winows 10'ish, but i like that you can see some decent sized album covers on the page. brightens the page up a bit. Also gives me an incentive to upload some abum covers to get rid of the ugly grey record spots on my page i suppose...

I quite like the fact they now have Spotify sources for your listening options. Always found it weak sauce having just 10 second clips before.

Haha, sure was! It was the first track I've ever bought on Beatport and I liked it because... Wait a minute, what sorcery is this!? Are you from the NSA!?

BURN THE WITCH!!!! :p

Something I've noticed are the personalized mixes, which must be created by a Last.fm algorithm based on prior scrobbles since I never made one myself. Seems every user has them, which might be an interesting way of randomly going through other folks' libraries.

Say, since Last.fm says J' and I have near-perfect "SUPER"! compatibility, let's see what the first dozen tracks of his mix offer!

Model 500 - Hi NRG
System 7 - Bewitched
Ulrich Schnauss - Goodbye
Oceanlab - Breaking Ties
Harold Budd - Sun At 6 Windows
Hybrid - Kill City
Mike Dehnert - Emlo
Lusine - Drip
PFM - One And Only
AstroPilot - Farscape
DJ Deeon - What Ya Wanna Do
Paragliders - Oasis

That's... a pretty darn good playlist. I only have three of those tracks, am familiar with another six, and the remaining three are completely new to me.

Still, Oceanlab, really?
Lira
I could be wrong, but doesn't the algorithm look for new songs based on what you and your friend like, along with tracks you've both listened to?

If not, Oceanlab, really?! :toothless

I'm reasonably confident I've never listened to any Oceanlab track barring the 16 Bit Lolitas remix of On A Good Day. Perhaps it was something you forced on me to review back in the TC days...

You set yourself up as the Anjuna' guy. :p

But let's see how this feature works with someone who's compatibility claims I'm poor with. Hey, Lira, you're up! :gsmile:

InsideInfo - No Funk
Leningrad Cowboys - Starman
SKisM - Elixer
Tim Clewz - Illogical
Telemetrik - The Bane
Black Sun Empire - Chaingang (Jade Remix)
Nightmares On Wax - Passion
Underworld - Dirty Epic
Audio - Headroom (VIP)
Metrik - Out Of The Fire
Yppah - Some Have Said
Public Domain - Operation Blade (7" Radio Mix)

After the first few tracks, I thought this was going to be a wildly eclectic mix (dnb! punk! brostep?). Then it settles into a whole lot of drum-n-bass for much of the rest. A couple downtempo tunes, a token popular 'electronica' cut, and a hardstyle finish is about as varied it goes. Guess Last.fm figures the only thing we have in common is junglism. :(

Yeah that sucks!

Haha, my bad! You've just described my actual taste in music: I listen to quite a lot of stuff (there's a reason I tried to pull an Ishkur a few years ago), but I just. Really. Love. Drum. And bass :D

Also, unless you loathe the stuff, I'm actually surprised there was no happy hardcore, because there bloody well should be :p
